La Roussière

St Clément, Cantal
Bed & Breakfast

An Alpine retreat in the Auvergne with excellent bedrooms, delightful meals 'en famille', good wine and a chattering stream

4 rooms

Rooms sleep 3 – 4

Not another house in sight, just the Cantal hills and a chattering stream. Your hosts did a lot of the huge restoration of their harmonious house themselves. Christian, a genius at woodwork, made the panelled interior and staircase – pure Auvergne – from reclaimed timber, built the chalet-style bedrooms for Brigitte to furnish, so comfortably, and add old armoires, ancient ceiling hooks… Beds are excellent, meals ‘en famille’ are a delight: great food, good wine, water from the spring. Be calmed by a serene, rustic elegance. There’s an organic vegetable garden, green rolling acres – a haven for wildlife, and for you. Glorious.

This is a wonderful place : very comfortable, fabulous decor, great hosts and lots of beautiful countryside and walking. One of the best Sawdays places we have stayed at! And that's really good praise indeed. Would love to think we can stay here again. Well done Christian and Brigitte! You have really made a special place to stay!

We knew from reviews that we would enjoy La Roussiere, the reality of being there was much more intense than we could have expected. Everything about the house is generous - the room, en suite, the communal sitting room, the outside terrace and huge table (designed and made by Christian) under the awning. You become aware of the degree of planning and presentation that has gone in to the experience - the house, guest facilities, local produce (including gentiane and chataigne liqueur) - on a personal level. It has to be a unique experience.

What could be nicer than an extremely comfortable room in a very interesting renovated old farmhouse at the end of a road in very attractive countryside. Then in addition there is the welcome and hospitality from Brigitte and Christian, the pre dinner aperos and the dinner "en commun" around the table in the kitchen, with a meal prepared with great care using local produce. Then you look forward to breakfast in the morning. For a relaxing place to stay this could hardly be bettered.

We spent two weeks at this haven of peace and tranquility in the Cantal. From our day of arrival until our departure Christian and Brigitte made every effort to ensure our holiday was perfect. Room immaculately clean, breakfasts delicious, evening meals first rate and very good value Christian and Brigitte are to be congratulated for being such superb hosts and providing excellent service We have already booked for next year!!
