The
Experience

Pascal teaches and tends the veg patch, Evelyne is an artist with a proper sense of colour and texture. Both hugely enjoyed doing up the barn beside their house, and now love sharing local lore and swapping stories with B&B guests (in English), though the barn is separate from their house. The rather disparate exterior belies the warmth and liveliness of the eco-friendly materials and fabrics used inside, the new bedding and smart bathrooms, and the cosy comfort of the wood burner. There’s space and softness in the living rooms, lots of peaceful garden – and so much to discover beyond. Remarkable value and so welcoming.

Reviews

We arrived after a long, hot journey from Switzerland, to paradise. Evelyne and Pascal met us as we pulled up in the car. These personal touches enhanced the experience, but the place on its own is wonderful. We sat in the garden and enjoyed a picnic evening mea looking over the fields, watching the frogs jump into the pool and feeling immediately at home. In the morning after a gorgeous breakfast, our two boys ran through the fields. They described how they scattered swarms of butterflies. Truly a magical stay.

Local points of interest from Evelyne Dauvergne

  • Two places from the Cluniac period are worth visiting: the 12th-Century roman church in Chatel-Montagne, only 13 km away and the church of Arronnes with a charming medieval garden, only 7 km away.
  • You will find many short to long marked hikes around 400 to 1000 meters in a wild protected nature, the Montagne Bourbonnaise. We advise you on our favourite walks and offer you our guides.
  • Le Sichon, La Besbre, Le Jolan are the perfect rivers to fish for wild trout.
  • The Domaine Royal de Randan, 25km away, is labelled “Jardins remarquables” and will charm you with its English, French and Italian influences.
  • The Château de Busset is an architectural masterpiece from the medieval period and the Renaissance. A great testimony to the glorious time of French history. From the 15th to the 20th century, the property belonged to a descendant of Saint Louis.
  • Vichy - 17km away - is a charming thermal town with a surprising architecture. You will find public gardens from Napoleon III time and lovely walks along the Allier river. The place also hosts sporty events. Visit the Hippodrome and enjoy the gastronomy!
