Le Manoir du Bout du Pont

Agnac, Lot-et-Garonne

Splendid large manor house with pool, gardens and pretty 16th century pigeonnier - bastide towns to explore in the Dordogne, Lot and Garonne

2 places

Sleeping from 4 – 12

Step through a fine stone gateway to reach the creamy walled manor with its tall windows and steep tiled roof. Across the leafy gardens is a listed pigeonnier, one of the finest in France, plus lawns, wild garden and a lovely pool. Plenty of room for groups inside too, from the impressive high-ceilinged dining room to a bar in the outbuildings.  Simply furnished bedrooms have grand dimensions, white walls and billowy curtains. Bag the biggest for its huge en-suite, complete with chimney, glorious bath and mosaic-tiled shower. Scottish owners Angela and Roddy came here from years living in Africa, and have filled the house with quirky objects and furniture from their travels. They love to play golf at the low-key club just five minutes away; they’ll lend two sets of clubs for guests too. The smaller apartment is on the first floor over the barn, with an open plan kitchen / living area and a terrace over the garden. All wonderfully French, but with African touches. Get to know Eymet, a lovely bastide town 6km away with shops and restaurants, take a microlight flight from a nearby club, host your wedding here!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Angela Sharp

  • Wander over the roman style bridge with its 23 arches into La Sauvetat du Dropt, where you'll find the convenience store, bakery, post office and the tabac/bar/restaurant.
  • Discover the hidden Lac Escourou and its nature reserve - walk, run, cycle around the entire area and it's less than 3km away. Why not visit http://www.paysdelauzun.com/fr/que-faire and find other activities in the area - the list seems endless.
  • Markets galore to stroll around and in the summer months, night markets, too...Eymet and Issigeac are the special ones. Absorb the atmosphere and why not buy some oysters, a baguette, a rotisserie chicken and a bottle of wine - hey presto - lunch.
  • Meander down the country lanes and soak up the history of the area by visiting the surrounding bastide villages and the various chateaux.
  • Explore the vineyards of the area, one of the closest is Domaine Eybro, but there are many more. To find out more, visit the Maison des Vins of Duras and the town of Duras.
  • In the summer months, a must is the Soiree Gourmande of La Sauvetat du Dropt - walk there and sample the produce of the area and listen to local musicians. Walk back by torchlight over the bridge to Le Manoir…
