The Experience

Arrive through gates and up a shingle drive, which meanders around to the main entrance of this old stone, blue-shuttered farmhouse. Single-storey and surrounded by gardens, there’s stacks of space: lie on loungers by the pool while the children burn off steam; bask in the views over orchards and fields of sunflowers. Sip a glass of wine on the gorgeous vine-covered terrace as the sun goes down, then gather around the dinner table in the vaulted-ceilinged salle. The kitchen is well equipped, there’s a den with toys, and a snug with sofas and a wood-burner for cosy evenings. Rooms are neutral, with white walls and splashes of colour, floors are tiled and refreshingly cool under foot. Bedrooms are fresh and welcoming with new linen and towels; from the double there are doors opening onto the terrace, and all have views northeast over the gardens; none are en suite, but there’s a smart bathroom, a shower room, and a separate loo. Visit bastide towns, farmers’ markets, Pirate Land for the young ones. St Emilion and Bordeaux are just over an hour away. It’s less than a mile to a shop and restaurants are 10-15 minutes’ drive.

A lovely gite with good pool, surrounded by fields. Very peaceful. Good restaurants in local villages a few miles away. Great area for cycling.

Had a lovely two weeks at La Cachette. It was very hot so the pool was an absolute saviour! Plus the fans in the bedrooms were very useful and kept us cool all throughout our stay. Lovely setting with great views. Evening food markets are a must!

Joanna, London

Had an amazing week in a beautiful location. The gite was very well looked after and the pool was fantastic. I’ll miss our evening BBQs!

We had a lovely week at La Cachette - perfect for our family of 5. Wonderful pool much loved by our children, a shady terrace and really spacious inside and out. Really well equipped house for a family holiday in rural France. Excellent recommendations from Lin and John - we loved the night markets in Eymet and particularly beautiful Fongrave. Highly recommended!

Fiona, Edinburgh

What a fantastic two week break made possible because of the quality Gite and amazing communications with the owner. The night sky's are missed as are the games of ping pong and afternoon swimming. The location is extremely private, rustic and relaxing with plenty to do in nearby surrounding villages and towns. Our three children (14, 18, 21) want to go back tomorrow! Thank you La Cachette for our wondeful summer holiday, we miss you.

Loads of space, indoors and outdoors. Lovely pool, large kitchen, pantry and dining room, cosy living room. Great roofed terrace with much appreciated table tennis table. Very attentive managers who live nearby and respond quickly i.c.o. issues or questions. Beautiful, peaceful and quiet landscape, not much traffic around. Definitely need a car (e.g. approx. 18-20 minutes to Miramont-de-Guyenne where there is a good bakery and larger supermarket). Night markets in small towns are great for food. For electrical cars: charging may a bit of a hassle as there are few charging points

What a fantastic place! Set in beautiful, rolling countryside it’s a real gem. We enjoyed the space of a very well equipped farmhouse and the peace and quiet of a property that has charm and character, but 21st Century amenities and comforts! We chilled and ate all our meals on the spacious verandah, mused about the world in general, swinging gently on the hammock, reclined on sunbeds beside the crystal clear pool and supported the French economy by drinking delicious local wines. We visited lovely medieval villages and absorbed the delightful countryside, devoid of traffic. A sheer joy.

From the moment I arrived at this incredible Farmhouse I instantly knew my weeks holiday was going to be amazing. The location is fabulous … so peaceful … the farmhouse offers everything you could possibly want or need … and is furnished to a high standard …and the Swimming pool is simply “Brilliant “ .. I have fallen in love with not only France but this beautiful property … and can not wait to return

Had a very relaxing 2 week break with great friends. Fantastic house, very spacious and comfortable, pictures do not do it justice. The managers and owners were very helpful leading up to and during our stay. The setting is so peaceful, private pool was just what you needed during the hot weather. I would highly recommend staying here and looking forward to a future return visit.

We stayed for two weeks with friends. We found the gite spacious and set in large grounds with a lovely clean pool with BBQ area adjacent. The managers Lucy and Andrew couldn't have been more helpful, advising us of a local restaurant at Puymiclan where we had a great lunchtime meal with a wonderful view one day. There were a few issues regarding the furnishings however these did not make any significant difference to our overall experience and the owner was happy to take the feedback on board. All in all a very relaxing holiday, made more relaxing by the weather and a private pool!

Claire, Bude

From the moment we drove through the surrounding area we knew we were going to love it. On arrival to the Gite we weren't disappointed, the setting was beautiful, remote and picturesque. The first thing the children wanted to do was jump in the gated pool. The Gite itself was very spacious and well equipped, the owners had clearly made it a home from home with plenty of activities from table tennis, board games, Freeview TV and plenty of DVDs. The standard inside and out was superb and we can't wait to return with friends/family to share this fantastic French Gite. Highly recommend a stay

This is the second year we visited La Cachette as we love it so much here! Beautiful surroundings that are so peaceful yet easy access to many nearby towns and markets. This year we really enjoyed the Chateau De Duras, exploring the beautiful Bordeaux and particularly recommend the Issegiac Market it’s incredible and the town is stunning. La Cachette is a wonderful home to stay in with children it has all the convenience you need with a wonderful play area and child friendly pool. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed a super week at La Cachette; lovely house in a beautiful, peaceful location. Great outings to Bridoire, Montbazillac, Pujols, Eymet and Fongrave and then wonderful afternoons by the pool at La Cachette, which the children loved. The house is really comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing family summer holiday, including very kind touches like fresh tomatoes, eggs and wine waiting for you upon arrival, just a short drive from Bergerac. Highly recommended.

Returned to La Cachette with our 3 generation family for a second year. Had a wonderful time again. It’s a great house in a beautiful part of France.

Rob, Antingham Norfolk

We had a wonderful time at La Cachette! Our kids age 6&8 could run around in the fenced garden, exploring and playing. Pool was very underrated according to the pictures cause it was very luxurious and hours just past by spending time there. Every town or wine yard was 20-40min away. We can heavily suggest that you attend the night markets! We will definitely remember this vacation and the house as top notch. Happy holidays The Hass family from Denmark The happy guest from Denmark

We had a fabulous holiday in La Cachette, a really lovely place. My 3 young girls adored it especially the swings and pool, and lots of space to run around too! It had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Would highly recommend renting La Cachette.

How lovely to return to La Cachette for the second year running in June 2018. It's like returning home! The house is furnished with everything you could possibly need whilst on holiday with all furniture, bed linen etc of top quality. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to ensure La Cachette is a very comfortable holiday home. The grounds are well maintained & the pool is a most welcome area to sit and while away long, relaxing days. The outside covered terrace is an absolutely fantastic space ensuring you can dine al fresco whatever the weather. We will definitely be returning in 2019.

Sally, KNUTSFORD

We absolutely loved it at La Cachette. It's such a lovely home away from home with everything you could need. Myself, husband, 6 year old son, 10 month old son and parents in law were all very comfortable here. Lin and Angela made so much effort to ensure our stay was relaxed. There were stair gates put up and loads and loads of toys to keep the boys entertained. The pool is fantastic and in great condition. The gate and alarm really made me feel at ease. The surrounding area is so beautiful with a couple of big supermarkets not far away. Lots of lovely places to visit as well.

Lucy, Burton on Trent

Great holiday at La Cachette. 8 adults, 4 children, 3 generations. We all loved the region, the location and most of all the house. Great views, lovely garden and pool, spacious accommodation. A lovely place to cook, eat, swim, play and have fun. We'd love to go back.

Rob, Norfolk

What a wonderfully relaxing house. Le Cachette made the perfect family holiday. A cold beer and wine welcomed us on arrival after a long journey and we were immediately on down time. So much to do within a few miles, beautiful scenery, history, good restaurants, activities and small towns to visit. Everything is thought of by the owners with helpful information to plan the stay there. The night markets are a must, especially Fongrave for foodies. The villa is beautifully decorated, large spaces to relax in and around the house, table tennis and the pool a good antidote to a days activities.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Lindsay Whitehead

  • In July and August the local villages come alive with night markets, where you can sample local freshly cooked food and wines, all while enjoying live music and the warmth of the long summer evenings. Our favourites are Fongrave and Issigeac
  • Although the Lot et Garonne is 2hrs from the coast, local river beaches are only 15 minutes drive away, where you can swim, sunbathe, play or simply relax with a picnic in the beautiful surroundings.
  • Wine tours to local vineyards can be arranged by prior request, but the most popular is St Emilion, which produces world famous red wine and which is a 45 minute drive away through rolling countryside. There's a train around the town and lovely cafes too.
  • There are many great local restaurants but if you fancy something extra special, a short drive to Bordeaux will allow you to sample one of Rick Stein's favourite restaurants, as featured on his most recent weekend breaks series.
  • Golf, horse-riding and canoeing are all available locally.
  • Cycling is especially popular locally as the area has the rolling landscape of Tuscany - we can arrange local cycle hire, provide maps and also introduce you to the local club which previous guests have enjoyed
