The
Experience

In the lovely Lot, encircled by Bastide towns, are three ancient farm buildings of mellow caramel stone. Elegant Fiona bought this run down hilltop farm and has transformed the whole place into a calming haven: the guest houses are smart, light-filled spaces; there’s an expanse of lawned garden, an inviting pool swaddled by swathes of lavender and a barn for yoga and music retreats. When Fiona’s not in London she lives in the big house and is on hand to make sure everything runs with aplomb. Each cottage has a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living area downstairs while bedrooms and bathrooms are up. The décor is simple with white or exposed stone walls, neutral coloured sofas and armchairs jazzed up with pretty cushions; the tiled kitchens are super functional and perfectly equipped. Bedrooms are calming with rolling country views and the en suite bathrooms are immaculate. This is a great spot for groups as each house has its own courtyard. Explore local towns and castles, canoe the Dordogne, go wine tasting; or stay put by the pool for some serious R&R.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Fiona Page

  • La Balie is a short drive from Monflanquin, a pretty bastide village chosen as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. There are shops, restaurants, bakeries and everything else you'll need for your stay
  • The beautiful valley of Gavaudun is a short stroll from the house where you'll find a great circular walk through open woodland, the pretty village of St Avit and the stunning rock-hewn tower of Gavaudun
  • There are masses of things to do in the local area; bustling markets for fresh fruit and vegetables, chateaux and castles to visit, wonderful vineyards and wine tastings, canoeing on the Dordogne or relaxing by our beautiful, heated, saltwater pool
  • Originally a hill-top farm, all the cottages at La Balie have stunning views over rolling countryside. For some serious relaxation grab a glass of chilled rosé, listen to the ancient church bells peal across the valley and watch a spectacular sunset
  • La Balie is home to one of the most popular summer piano courses in the world. Amateur pianists come from far and wide to study with our fabulous concert pianists. We always have a piano available for you to play.
