In the gentle folds of Bordeaux sits this 1766 house half way up a hill, with views across vineyards – swoop through electronic gates to find owner Béatrice who gives you a comfortable shared sitting room and four private-feeling bedrooms. There are three on the ground floor and one upstairs, all with a Gustavian flavour and extremely plush; sleep peacefully in beautifully dressed beds, pad around serious bathrooms with soft robes and pebble flooring. Breakfast (outside on balmy days) on local jams, honey and fresh pastries from the village baker. Splash in the pool, wander the grounds, visit vineyards, discover Perigueux. Restful.
