The
Experience

Steps curl around old stone walls and lead to rooms long ago carved out of the rock face of the Dordogne valley. Each has its own outside entrance, and views from the top floor stretch over the town to the Château de Montfort beyond.

Annie is passionate about the village’s history, hiking, bike rides, gastronomy… and happy to advise. Breakfast is off white Limoges china at the long table in her house next door or on the terrace and includes fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and jams and locally-roasted coffee.

Jardins d’Eau, a botanical garden with lotuses and water lilies, is just ten minutes’ walk away –use Annie’s kitchen to make a picnic. Hire bikes and cycle the ‘voie verte’ or greenway between Sarlat and Soirac, walk to a good restaurant in ten minutes or just sit on the terrace and contemplate the Périgord landscape.

Reviews

Take a chance and enjoy Annie's special brand of troglodyte chic. Her rooms were long ago carved out of the rock face of the Dordogne valley. Now they are a mixture of stone walls and brightly-painted plaster, with really great shower rooms. Rent a bike and cycle into Sarlat, then return to relax on the first-floor terrace above the bustle of Carsac's main street and enjoy the rooftop views.

Really enjoyed our stay. Room well appointed and immaculately clean. Traditional French breakfast excellent with pain au chocolate, fresh bread, home-made yoghurt. Annie a friendly and welcoming host. An informal bar / bistro near at hand for evening meal and drinks. But, as the name suggests, right on the green way, converted railway track, for walking & cycling as far as Sarlat 5 miles away. Key Dordogne sites also on the doorstep. Recommended.

Andrew, Tiverton

Our host, Annie could not have been more friendly. She went out of her way to provide everything we could need. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the breakfasts first rate with delicious homemade jams and fresh bread from the boulangerie down the road.Thank you!

Everything mentioned by other reviews is true: this inn is delightful and Annie is a warm and generous host. We stayed a week and plan to return. Carsac is a wonderful base to explore the Dordogne valley, away from the beehive of Sarlat yet in the midst of the great trails, sights and local produce farms--and Annie knows all the best places to go. The village is compact and alive, with lovely shops and friendly people--well worth discovery, along with Aillac nearby. One correction to the Sawday's summary: Annie speaks only French.

The Dordogne and its valley are perfection. Its natural beauty, the historic villages, the spectacular chateaux, the fertile country, all compel the visitor to be in awe and linger. And Annie Boyer epitomises all that is the best in hospitality and in the pride she has of the region. Annie makes a home for her visitors and guides them into planning how best to pack in a selection from the myriad of possibilities the Dordogne has on offer. And with the Tour de France in the area on the 11th July, this part of the world will be irresistible. And Annie's La Voie Verte will have a front row seat.

Where do i start? We stayed 3 nights here and WOW IT IS FANTASTIC. We stayed in the Kiwi room which is highly furnished with a great terrace outside to sit in the sun. Annie is superb and we found she went out of her way to accomadate us even in going out and buying speciallity cheeses for us to try together with the best Apple juice i have ever tasted. Annie spent a lot of her time explaining to us the best sites to visit and even provided cycles for us to ride on the very neat cycle route. This is without doubt the best B & B i have stayed in. You will not be dissapointed

Chris, Goole

We stayed with Annie for 5 days and she is delightful! She could not have been more welcoming or helpful. She recommended places to see even drawing maps to make sure we went the best way and to the best car parks! We were also able to borrow 2 bikes from her and were able to explore the local area on these. The room was beautifully clean and breakfasts lovely; Annie went out of her way to ensure we had what we liked. We would not hesitate to return!

Barbara

Absolutely 5* accommodation and wonderful breakfasts in a friendly little village in the heart of the Dordogne. Great restaurants, walks, cycling track just behind, near to Sarlat, Domme and La Roque Gageac. Highly recommended.

Location

The neighbourhood

Find an organic wine shop next door to the property, a bar across the road and several restaurants within strolling distance. The Saturday morning market in Sarlat is one of the region's most popular; the outstanding produce on offer depends onthe season but could include truffles, foie gras, mushrooms and chocolate. There's a smaller market on Wednesdays too.

Local points of interest from Annie Boyer

  • Your host promises to ensure you have a quality stay in an authentic region. We are ideally located at the heart of all the major sites of the Black Perigord: Sarlat, Lascaux, Beynac, Domme, Rocamadour, Padirac.
  • Through my targeted advice, whether through the discovery of idyllic places far from the beaten paths, walks or cycling routes, our gastronomy and our cultural heritage, I'll take you to the basics.
  • Back at your room, you will have the option to dine on-site, or in one of the restaurants or village's brasserie (where you can also buy meals and eat them on our terrace!).
  • From the windows of the rooms Tilleul and Groseille there is a large view on the landscape, and on the beautiful Périgourdines roofs. In the distance is the Chateau de Montfort.
  • Next door is a wine merchant, you can visit for tasting and buying! This year, my guests will also enjoy a complimentary wine tasting (organic wines).

Introducing

Annie Boyer

Annie is a delight. Warm, thoughtful and proud of her house –she was born here and knows the village and everyone in it very well. She runs the B&B with her daughter Karine.
