Bed & Breakfast

Green-fingered, gregarious Monique loves her garden – and you will too. Find peace in the valley, Renaissance splendour in Sarlat-la-Canéda

Rooms sleep 2

Birdsong, a frog chorus, the murmur of springs: the rest is silence in these splendid gardens, a labour of love for owner Monique, a joy for her guests, who have private access. Looking down on this happy valley is a cluster of apricot-hued limestone buildings. Rooms – sleek and contemporary, mixing dressed stone with rag-rolled walls – are in the apex of the old barn; each has its own terrace fragrant with lavender and wisteria. Walk over wobbly stone to the shabby chic salon and dining room, where breakfast is served on English bone china. For dinner, Monique plunders her garden to produce regional specialities. A delight in the Dordogne!

This is a charming property. The accommodation was both stylish and comfortable. Produce from the garden was eaten in excellent company.

Monique is an absolute gem, unpretentious and again nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautifully done and comfortable, a mix of old barn and contemporary fittings. The place is quite magical and if you are looking for remote solitude then this has to be perfect. We also loved Monique’s dogs, cats and kittens which were so friendly and certainly kept us amused. A tranquil haven. It was quite difficult to find as the English sat nav did not pick up Rue Les Crochets and it is remote from Vitrac itself, but Monique was able to talk us in on the phone. We stayed for 2 nights.

Beautiful garden in a private valley a few kilometres south of Sarlat. It has been very nice to be in Monique´s property. She is a very nice hostess, trying her best in english, we had very interesting coversations over the dinners she prepared for us (by the way, the best meals we had in Dordogne). The hotel is a handmade creation of Monique´s daily work. We were witness to her continuous labor improving and enlarging the hotel. The gardens surrounding the property are incredible, wild and organized at the same time. Frogs and crickets will rock your sleep at night. An authentic place.

We spent three days in this nice place and enjoyed the calmness there. After a day of siggoodhtseeing it was good to sit on the sunny terrace and look at the wonderful garden. The dinner with Monique and Alain was very nice - good meal and good talk.

We arrived after a long drive down from the Loire, and had a great welcome with tea, then a tour of the garden, great food, and fascinating conversation about everything from mushrooms through the weather to the state of French roads. Excellent rooms and facilities.
