The Experience

Dominique makes you feel very welcome here. There’s a real community spirit and everyone has privacy and views. Opt for La Petite Borde’s open fire and little suntrap garden, the cosy nest of l’Oustal du Potager or the antique shop finds of La Métairie’s twin apartments – great for two families together.

Each one is charmingly decked out in limewash and tadelakt, natural fabrics at the windows which look out on to views that are green and far ranging. You can see landmark towns but are screened by orchards – eat outside on the terrace or join the rest of the tribe at the pool.

Come rain or shine the Dordogne valley is beautiful and packed with history, though closer to home there’s canoeing on the river, wonderful gardens to potter and a little petting zoo of rabbits and sheep to absorb little ones. Select herbs and vegetables from the communal potager for lunch – Dominique leaves you bio cleaning products and fresh, chilled water.

Reviews

We had a lovely stay at the Hamlet, the location is quiet and idyllic and beautifully maintained. Our gite was clean, private and well equipped. The pool is sizeable and our son appreciated the play area. Thank you also to our host for being so welcoming. The Hamlet is located just outside Sarlat and it was easy to travel to everything we needed or wanted to visit by car.

We had a glorious stay at Le Hameau du sentier des sources. Our gite was perfect for my wife and me. We also had a small separate bedroom for our friend who visited for three nights. We cooked 9 out of the 10 nites we were there. We grilled chicken, whole fish, veal chops, vegetables and ate dinner outside on the patio each time. The patio overlooking the Dordogne valley was so soothing and the perfect place to sip wine and read our books. There is terrific pool, 25 meters in length, where we swam in the late afternoon whenthe day was hotest. The location is ideal for day trips.

We had a lovely stay at Le Hameau our accommodation was very nice and our bed was very comfortable. We had wonderful views of the countryside from our patio and the accommodation and grounds were all very well maintained. Its in an excellent location for sightseeing. We had a lovely welcome even though we had a late arrival from the host, he was very friendly helpful and very knowledgeable of the area.

A return visit for us and with my Dad this time. Both Gites are absolutely beautiful, really, the photos do show what an amazing and very special place this is. Dominique and family do pull out all the stops to ensure your holiday here will be so memorable. Look no further, for a stay in La Dordogne. We will be back with our extended family, this place is home from home.

James, West Felton

We are a couple who stayed from September 12 to 26, 2020 in the Maison de Mon Père gîte for 4 people with all mod cons: washing machine and dishes, Nespresso coffee maker, furnished and decorated with great taste, very clean with its private terrace. Imagine at sunrise, 2 horses from the property whining, rabbits frolicking nearby, 2 sheep grazing and clouds of heat appearing far from the valley. It is an idyllic, relaxing setting. The estate is masterfully managed by the owner Dominque.

Our second stay at the Hameau du Sentier des Sources only confirmed our amazement and our enthusiasm for this absolutely magnificent site. An enchanted break, a true haven of peace, an incredible harmony of the surrounding nature and a sublimely reconstructed Perigord village. BRAVO and THANKS to Dominique, the host, Cécile and her wonderful team for the quality of their welcome and their infinite kindness. A place not to be missed!

We have just returned from a week staying at La Petite Borde, a beautifully decorated and presented gite with stunning views. The pool, with views across the Dordogne hills was exceptional as were the sunbathing facilities. The owner, Dominque and Pauline, his daughter could not have been better hosts. Joining Dominique on a one of his guided walks, was one of the highlights of our week. Would definitely recommend Le Hameau Du Sentier Des Sources as a very special place to stay in Le Perigord Noir, we will be returning, for two weeks next time.

Gites du Perigord is a fantastic little village of gites, built and landscaped to perfection by a very friendly man called Dominique. The studio apartment was perfect for a couple, and has been cleverly designed to make the best use of the small space. The views and the pool are fantastic, and there are lots of lovely places to visit nearby. Dominique and his team were really helpful and friendly, and the whole place has a very welcoming, peaceful atmosphere.

Great week spent with the family in La Petite Borde. The view is beautiful, the park very well maintained. Our 3 year old daughter particularly enjoyed the ponies and sheep and also the opportunity to play with the rabbit, with her only disappointment being the lack of a see-saw.. :-) The cottage is quiet and near the sightseeing caves, sinkholes, villages etc. We were very well received, the owner is available while being discreet.

Relax into the beautiful surroundings and your individually decorated house; wander up to the sophisticated pool then gather a few herbs on the way back through the well-maintained grounds, past the animal enclosures...appreciate the taste and meticulous attention to detail created by Dominique and his dedicated staff. A real treat for a family or group.

Patricia, Sawday's inspector

This beautiful area is a little piece of paradise, ideal for resting, rejuvenating, relaxing. We marvelled at every detail of the site and our cottage. A discrete and attentive owner, on hand with tips and recommendations. We loved the self-service vegetable garden, canoeing down the Dordogne and the exchanges with Cécile. It was lovely to share with the other guests the grilled fillet of duck - a moment of sharing and discovery. We will surely stay at this site again and will tell all of our friends about it. Thank you for the welcoming us.

Beautiful place, quiet and very well placed to visit Sarlat and its surroundings, the Dordogne, the Lot and Rocamadour. The cottages are well designed and in regional style, with enough space to feel at home. It is beautifully landscaped, with everything you need and well maintained. Many activities are offered as part of the hamlet and the pool is beautiful with panoramic views. Very friendly welcome where the owner is really attentive to the well-being of everyone. A place we didn't want to leave..but want to come back to straight away.

Location

The neighbourhood

There’s space for 50 here but you’ll feel tucked away in your gîte – keep to yourself or join in with the communal evenings: Dominique does a fabulous grilled magret de canard at weekends, just take along a salad. The approach winds uphill through woods and meadows until all 2.5 hectares splays out in front of you. It has a lovely villagey feel but is close to Renaissance gem Sarlat (4km), where you’ll find a heaving centre of medieval history. There’s a great farm shop (1.5km) for farm-fresh produce nearby, plus all the major supermarkets in Sarlat.

Local points of interest from Dominique Imberty

  • Find the medieval city of Sarlat 5 minutes away with its 2 famous markets on Saturday and Wednesday morning. Sarlat by night is equally as unmissable. Le Périgord, famous for its gastronomy, conceals many addresses we will help you to discover.
  • 10 km away find the Dordogne valleys of the middle ages with its numerous imposing chateaux. From the magnificent gardens of Marqueyssac, you can enjoy 3 of the most beautiful villages in France, Laroque-gageac, Castelnaud et Beynac.
  • For sporty types, travel down the Dordogne by canoe. Hiking, mountain biking or on horseback are also lovely alternatives to discover the countryside thanks to the number of routes. Why not try caving or climbing too?
  • 20 mins away you’ll find the prehistoric Vézère valley, a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the many ornate caves such as LASCAUX IV.
  • For a day trip, visit the very famous abyss of Padirac (underground boat ride) and Rocamadour, the 2nd most visited site in France. Not far from there, I love the two small less touristic villages, which I’ll advise you on too.
  • For wine lovers, the vineyards of Bergerac, Monbazillac and Cahors are a 1-hour drive. On the way back, the circuit of the bastides of Monpazier, Beaumont, Montflanquin will finish off your wonderful day out.

Introducing

Dominique Imberty

Dominique is (justifiably) very proud of his creation. He lives on site in a house which overlooks his little Perigord kingdom and you’ll be greeted by either him or his partner Cecile. Dominique’s taken after his mason father after a long and varied career, including a stint in Africa, and enjoys picking up new ideas at design shows which he translates into his vision.
