The Experience

Relax on the patio enclosed by high hedges and shaded by trees. You can bask by the pool, lunch on the terrace and have a barbecue in the evening with provisions from the good local boucherie. You stay in the gîte adjacent to the 19th-century coach-house, recently revived by William and Vanessa.

Inside feels warm, convivial and cosy – an open-plan design for plenty of space and with huge rustic beams overhead. Take a tour of Vanessa’s wonderful vintage fashion collection in the little museum; stroll down to the village and its lovely square for shops, a bar and boulangerie.

This is the northern reach of the Dordogne, the aptly named Perigord Vert, with a verdant landscape of forests, valleys and hills. Stock up at Piégut-Pluviers market (26km), discover prehistoric cave paintings at the Grotte de Villars (19km) and visit the Château de Jumilhac and its gardens (18km), topped with turrets and towers.

Reviews

Thank you for an absolutely lovely time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beaux Souvenirs. Vanessa & William were fantastic hosts. The villages, chateaux in the area were very beautiful. And the food and drink was great!

Bob & Michelle, Garstang, Lancashire

We have had a lovely week here. The gite, garden and pool were fabulous. The area is great for bike rides and certainly did quite a few miles to make up for the food we have enjoyed. We loved the suggestions of places to visit, going to have to return as we still have a few places we didn't make it to. Many thanks

Jo and Harry, Kent

A wonderfully comfortable gite. Had a relaxing time here, despite the "aseasonal weather". Lots to do and see. Exceptionally dedicated hosts-thanks to Vanessa & William. The museum is an absolute gem!

Claire and Barry, St Ouen, Jersey

We have had a super time here, really enjoyed visiting the local villages and restaurants! Museum talk was superb Vanessa! Thanks William for being our chauffeur!!!

Sue and David, Knutsford, Cheshire

A lovely, private & quiet gite which we have truly appreciated. Yet, near enough to the village to walk for a coffee, bread and the Tuesday market. The pool was beautiful and for our sole use. The area is truly interesting, abundant chateaux, lovely towns such as Brantome, abundant walks. Our hosts Vanessa & William are a font of knowledge and a wonderful & warm couple. Thank you for everything!

Gladys & John, Wales

A wonderful week at your comfortable gite. Very quiet and relaxed – but plenty of places to explore & visit in the local area. Vanessa & William – you are perfect hosts. Thank you & hope to come back one day soon.

Sarah & Phil, UK

Our week here was exactly what we needed – relaxing combined with tourism & great food. Thank you Vanessa & William – you are the best & have thought of everything.

Maire & Paul, Oslo, Norway

Beaux Souvenirs has been just the retreat we all needed - post lockdown. We'll miss our daily morning amble to the boulangerie through the pretty village. The fresh bread and coffee in this serene location will bring us back. We've also enjoyed just chilling around the pool, to the sound of those elusive owls. We've loved our various excursions to the points of interest that are just a short drive from this quiet village. Thank you Vanessa & William you were warm, knowledgeable and very welcoming. Thank you for a special and memorable break.

Eloise, Yvonne & Dave, London

What an amazing place! The gite was perfect in every way and had absolutely everything we needed. The outdoor space in particular was great, good spot for star watching. Vanessa and William have been great hosts and Vanessa's knowledge of local attractions to visit was invaluable. We hope to stay longer next time!

Nick & Julie, Lincolnshire

Four years on from our first visit and what treat! The gite is as beautiful as the first time we came.

Ken and Suzie, Suffolk

We have spent a wonderful 2 weeks in this beautiful gite, relaxing by the pool, exploring the local area, (David by bike) and are now thoroughly relaxed! Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable - you are perfect hosts! We hope to return.

David & Jackie, Hebburn-on-Tyne

An amazing place to stay, clean tidy well-designed and laid out, with quality furnishings throughout. The pool and garden area are fantastic, with lots of places to sit and enjoy the sun. The good-sized pool is cleaned every morning. The village is only a 6-minute walk and has a fantastic quality butcher, a good bakery and an organic veg etc shop. There is also a bar and small grocers. We had a lovely, relaxing week there, a standard far above most gîtes in the area. Lots of places to visit locally, all in Vanessa's file at the gîte. Grateful thanks to Vanessa and William

Don, Alyson & Abbie, Lough

Thank you Will and Vanessa for a fantastic gite and pool. We loved the pool, garden and setting so much. It was hard to leave. It was really great to have a salt maintained pool which was expertly maintained. Great info and recommendations. A delight to spend time learning about the museum with you Vanessa and thanks for a warm, friendly greeting. Would love to come back.

Steve, Julie, Imogen & Laura, Rugby

What a disappointment! To have to leave after 1 week. It was perfect. Thanks Vanessa & William

Ingrid & Marco, Baarie-Nassau, Holland

We very much enjoyed our 12 days' stay in this comfortably well equipped and tastefully decorated gite. We loved the quietness and peacefulness of the house, the garden and the whole area. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the Perigord Vert, Vanessa and William proved to be very friendly and warm in their welcome and very helpful all kinds of things; much appreciated! All in all, an unforgettable stay in a wonderful environment!

Joost & Anja, Ysselsbein, Holland

Introducing

Vanessa Jane Howard

In the main house live a delightful pair: William, a Scot, and English Vanessa. William, who was in the Royal Navy in the 1980s, is a keen amateur historian and could discuss Napoleon for hours; Vanessa loves fashion and worked in marketing. They are really knowledgeable about the area so ask them for recommendations - they'll even make bookings for you.
