The
Experience

Squeeze down wildflower-strewn lanes to this Edwardian villa at the foot of Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales. Step into a generous, cheerful hallway to find a house full of comfort and colour. Settle around the log fire in the soft-painted sitting room, or relax in the sunny conservatory with garden and panoramic mountain views. Boutique bedrooms are light and lovely with art, antiques, books, pretty fabrics and flat-screen TVs; sleep peacefully on perfectly ironed white cotton. Bathrooms are swish and slate-floored; one has a vast free-standing bath. You’re in the middle of the Brecon Beacons so there are spectacular walks to discover, food and literary festivals, bike rides and good pubs galore. Smiling Emma, who lives next door, leaves you a welcome hamper of homemade bread, jam and garden produce. She will let you feed the hens in the pretty tree-filled garden, lend you binoculars to peek at the woodpeckers (and shy nuthatches) and help plan outings. There’s a telescope too – the Brecon Beacons have been granted International Dark Sky Reserve status. And if you fancy a night out under the trees and stars, you can book Danyfan Carriage on Canopy & Stars.

Local points of interest from Emma Bald

  • Great for outdoor activities - walk up Pen-y-fan from the door, wonderful for road and mountain biking, watersports, horse riding - whatever you're after, you'll find it nearby!
  • Great for children - there are travel cots, high chairs, bath mats, bouncy chairs and toys, as well plenty of space! And there is so much to do for children - farm parks, caves, owl centre, Brecon mountain railway - to name but a few
  • Lovely terrace with a barbeque to relax and look up at the mountains from. In the garden there's swings, trampoline a slide and feel free to get involved with some log splitting or gardening!
  • We hold the 'Cyclists Welcome' scheme award, so there's secure storage as well as maps, guide books and puncture repair kits.
  • Great for foodies - close to Abergavenny, of the food festival fame, and there are plenty of farmers' markets and good pubs.
  • Lots to do without even leaving the house - ping pong, table tennis, board games, thousands of books and bird watching
