The Experience
Steps from the National Trust’s Lily Lakes is an irresistible bolthole for two – or three if you bring a child. The cottage is attached to the rectory of Bosherston, and is aptly named: the little sitting room was the school room in which the rector taught the children to read. Now all is light, contemporary and charming: a fat sofa, an easy chair, books, a little wood-burner, a pretty pine table. The colours are dreamy and remind you of how close you are to the sea: deep aqua for the kitchen, blue-grey boards for the bedroom, white for the shutters. On the kitchen’s hand-made sycamore worktops – fronted by bar stools in cool retro mode – eggs from the family’s hens nestle in a basket, along with flowers and salads in season. Up the stair is a walk-in wardrobe and a fabulous bed; next door, a small bathroom in stylish white and chrome. Beside the big gate: your own patio and two patches of lawn so you can chase the sun or the shade. You can walk to a jolly pub and a café for teas, but best of all, across the Lily Ponds and over the hill, is the finest sand beach in all Pembrokeshire.
