The
Experience

Cordelia’s Grade II* farmhouse deep in the Black Mountains is attached to the Priory’s 12th-century walls in the family’s 200-plus acres – populated with sheep and cows. The self-catering wing with its imposing front door made up the prior’s private lodgings prior to the Dissolution in 1536: history abounds! The hallway is handsomely flagged and the sitting room nicely beamed; it’s also dominated by a log-filled iron range – pure Beatrix Potter. A vase overflows with scented flowers, an antique pine table happily seats six, and the Priory peers at you through deep-set windows. The kitchen is galley-style, and basic; there’s no space for a washing machine but Cordelia insists you pop next door and use hers. Through the kitchen is a small bathroom with an old roll top bath. The gorgeously carved bedhead in the double bedroom may once have been a pair of monastic doors; the massive stone lintel over the fireplace protects a 17th-century oak coffer. The second room is great for children with three beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Deep countryside, heavenly views, ancient peace.

Reviews

Absolutely enchanted by the whole experience of what felt like living inside the pages of a magical history novel. The host prepared flowers for us upon arrival, the beds were made beautifully and the photos do not do justice to this amazing 11th century house. The view outside the windows from every room, whatever the weather or season, will be mesmerizing. We have been travelling the world for a year using all sorts of accommodation and without a doubt, this place is our favorate so far.

We found the Court Farm, in Llanthony Priory in the book ' Go Slow ' England and Wales and with little more knowledge booked our weeks stay with the ultimate kind Cordelia Passmore. She has created a comfortable apartment with the necessary luxury , but without the feeling of an ' over the top ' kind of place. We had the luck of a weeks perfect weather, no rain at all. From the Court farm we did a number of walks and were able to pick up a nice impression of the landscape and the towns nearby. Sunny garden and evening woodfire. For anybody who loves walking, moderate climate and history; go !

I don't really want to say how special this places is, so we can keep it to ourselves! Understated elegance and comfort are only upstaged by the astounding surroundings. The owners could not have been more helpful and friendly, we are already planning a return trip. Heaven.
