The
Experience
This family hotel is set in farmland with wake-up views over Cardigan Bay and the Snowdon mountain range. It’s been in Nick’s family for nearly 70 years – and the Good Food Guide forever too. He’s passionate about the place and the food, and he and Louise are consummate hosts. Menus change daily: fresh fish aplenty, venison, guinea fowl, fruity puddings, Welsh cheeses – served in the dining room in front of a massive picture window for soaking up those views. Bedrooms are cosily inviting; some double rooms adjoin twins, easy for families of four or five, and cots are available too. Settle in any of the six interconnecting sitting rooms – all relaxed and friendly with heaps of art on the walls, flowers, country antiques, books and comfy cushioned places to read; there’s a small bar and a children’s snug with a games room next door. Spill out onto the front terrace on sunny days; there’s an outdoor heated pool and tennis court and the coastal path runs right past the gardens. A great base for exploring the North Wales coast and mountains – seaside towns Abersoch, Pwllheli and Porthmadog are nearby.
