Hike up Snowdon or take the train, visit great Welsh castles and lovely Llyn beaches – settle down by the fire, sit out and watch the stars

The Glasfryn estate, a minor wend off the main road down the LLyn Peninsula, has all the right credentials for this Area of truly Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nothing here jars, least of all Pantymoeliad, one of several sturdy local stone estate cottages, in acres of greenery, backed by woodland… it’s a joy to wander out on dewy evening grass to listen to the settling countryside. Owners Jonathan and Helen are passionate about the place – once the family home of architect Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of nearby Portmeirion – and have taken the utmost care refurbishing the cottage. There’s plenty of space for everyone by the fire in the sitting room (and underfloor heating); the chef-friendly kitchen has most gadgets imaginable, a refectory table under high wooden ceilings and French windows onto the garden. Bedrooms are super comfortable. The downstairs en-suite double opens straight outdoors and the three first floor rooms, one bunk-bedded, have green views to Cardigan Bay, and share a family bathroom; there’s a wet room downstairs too. Close to great Welsh castles, Snowdonia and lovely Llŷnn beaches.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Tamar Ferguson

  • Pantymoeliad nestles on the private Glasfryn Estate in an area of outstanding beauty. Surrounded by open fields and woodlands, this was the family home of Clough Williams-Ellis who of course designed Portmeirion.
  • We also own Glasfryn Parc - one of North Wales' Top Ten Days out. Perfect for "kids" of all ages - go karting, crazy golf, clay pigeon shooting and even archery!
  • Portmeirion is a magical place and a perfect day out. Not only the quirky village itself but also woodland walks or even a dip in the heated pool or a paddle in the sea.
  • On the edge of Snowdonia, Pantymoeliad is the perfect location for exploring this lovely area. Snowdon is only a short drive away - take the little train to the summit and have a cuppa whilst enjoying the breathtaking views.
  • Beaches, beaches, beaches - with over 100 miles of coastline, where to start.. Criccieth,; Porth Dinllaen; Llanbedrog with it's line of pretty beach huts; Black Rock Sands: You are spoiled for choice!
