Pengwern Country House

A great B and B in north Wales. They made us feel special from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The breakfast was excellent and knowledge of the area great. Our time there was filled up with gardens, castles and hikes. The restaurant down the road comes highly recommended as well

We had another fantastic stay at Pengwern Country House recently. The rooms are luxurious and very comfortable. The choice and quality of breakfast is excellent - an ideal start for a day in the hills! Gwawr and Ian are great hosts and have lots of local knowledge of places to walk, eat, drink etc. This was our 4th time at Pengwern and we'll definitely return.

An experience to repeat. Nothing to relate negatively as the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were generous and quite professionally prepared. Our room was a treat with magnificent views of the lledr valley. Certainly a great base to return to when tired and relax in the large drawing room before retiring to the sheets for a good nights sleep. No problem with parking the car as plenty of space. We look forward to knocking on their door when next in that lovely part of the world., and enjoying those breakfasts before a day of relaxed expectation in North Wales.

Fantastic stay, Gwawr and Ian were super lovely, knowledgeable hosts. Delicious breakfasts, deep baths, comfy beds, great location, and lots of little extras all made a perfect weekend, would highly recommend.

Pengwern was just lovely. The location was ideal for natural beauty and adventure. The owner Gwawr was very accommodating. Could not have asked for more. The breakfast selection was vast and fresh. The food quality was brilliant and cooked beautifully. The sleeping facilities were super comfortable and the living surroundings covered everything. We as a group would highly recommend any visitors to stay at Pengwern as you will not be disappointed.

Pengwern is a lovely place, and Ian and Gwawr are great hosts. Our three night visit had been booked by our son as a (slightly belated) birthday celebration for Barbara, so out came the breakfast candle and "happy birthday"! Gwawr produced first class vegan breakfasts for us, even though not listed on the standard menu. She showed an interest in what we were doing, and had lots of helpful advice about Betws-y-coed, the area and walking options. Our room was lovely and comfortable. The view was incredible. Cannot speak highly enough of Gwawr and Ian at Pengwern . It is the perfect restful retreat and springboard to experience Snowdonia. Amazing breakfast and very peaceful location. I am always recommending this hidden gem to others.

My partner and I went for a three nights break at Pengwern and cannot recommend it more highly. We stayed in the George Wightwick (Superking) room, overlooking the valley, which was beautiful and a little quirky. Gwawr is a wonderful host; she is very friendly, personable, made us instantly feel at home and prepared fantastic breakfasts! Gwawr is a wonderful host, making us feel very welcome. The house is beautiful with each bedroom having its own distinctive feel. It was lovely to come back from our walks to the large sitting room with its warm fire. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts which were made with first class ingredients and there was plenty of choice.

A very comfortable place to stay close to amenities. Gwawr is extremely likeable and looked after our every needs during our stay. Will certainly return in the future, especially with the option of a self catering unit.

Pengwern is a great place to stay, with very comfortable and spacious rooms and social space. Everything was immaculately clean and with all you could need from a guest house (comfortable beds, tea/coffees/TV etc). The noteworthy mention is how welcoming and attentive Gwawr and Ian were during our two night stay. From recommended hikes, a warm sense of humour, suggested activities or generosity in time for any requests we gave them. We couldn't have asked for a more lovely place to stay. Gwawr makes a proper Welsh breakfast, so you better be prepared to have a long walk during the day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and relaxing, with beautiful views. The hosts were charming and helpful. The location was perfect for both local scenic walks and access to Snowdon. We hope to return.

Stayed at Pengwern with some friends for a 3 night break. Beautiful location, just a short drive outside the town. Gwawr and Ian were amazing hosts, they were knowledgeable and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were comfy with everything you could need. Loved the cooked breakfasts. What a special place! Great hospitality from friendly and experienced hosts Gwawr and Ian who know the area intimately. We stayed with friends on a tour of Wales. The food, the scenery, the walks - the welcome. Sawdays at its best! And very good value with no compromise on comfort & good bathrooms.
