Eco heaven doesn’t have to come bereft of style: here are two neat cottages, formerly a pig sty and cowshed, now modernised with just the right amount of history in the mix: exposed stone walls, original archways, antique pieces, textiles from Jane Beck Welsh Blankets. David and Philippa who live in the farmhouse opposite have ten bountiful acres with an orchard, vegetable beds, humming bees, happy pigs and owl boxes. Each cottage has a private garden and shares a games room (table tennis, dart board, giant outdoor chess). Double height living/dining areas feel airy and spacious, the smaller cottage has a spiral staircase; both have wood-burning stoves, TV/DVDs and comfy seating. Kitchens and bathrooms have glossy red units, cheery tiles and eco friendly products. The couple find time to make pies and preserves (buy yours from the honesty box), greet guests, and get involved in local life. Children will love collecting eggs, feeding the animals, pond dipping, and building dens under the treehouse. Shops are three miles away, the coast seven and there’s plenty of rolling countryside to tramp, including miles of coastal path.

Charming barn conversion, very clean and comfortable. Well stocked with entertainment and unusually well provided with excellent local food and ready made meals. Hosts were friendly and helpful and have done a great job of the site. A great place with easy access to the Mid-Wales coast. Huge amount of information provided by hosts. All up to date. We will happily go back.

We had a very enjoyable week in cwt mochyn, house was very spacious, had a very comfortable bed, ensuite shower room plus of course bathroom and 2 other bedrooms. The corner sofa was spacious and comfortable, the ability to buy the off home cooked meal or veg, preserves etc was Great, good for when you couldn't be bothered to go out. We took both our 2 small terriers, the garden isn't completely dog proof for small ones but wasn't a problem as long as you kept an eye on them, we would definitely return.

Natalie, Bradford

A beautifully peaceful and private location, full of wildlife and nature. We also loved the addition of a freezer full of home cooked food, available to buy . We sampled the sausages , which were delicious . This was such a good idea ,as it saved finding shops unless you wanted to . The barabrith left for us was also gorgeous and was finished in a flash ! The cottage was exceptionally well equipped and clean. The info folder was also very comprehensive and softened the blow of no wifi! All in all a great place to stay. Thank you Phillipa and David

Joanna, Hereford

Lovely cottage, ideal for exploring the coast and the hills or just staying put to enjoying the peace and quiet. The children had a great time in the treehouse, games room and visiting the pigs. Fabulous home cooked food available, would definitely recommend the lamb curry!

Sally, Durham

A beautifully renovated cottage and just perfect for a family reunion. Small, but well-equipped kitchen. A freezer full of homemade goodies to buy not to mention melt in the mouth fresh eggs were a big plus. A bit of a drive to shops to get milk etc But we came prepared. We stayed home evenings not being interested in night life (except the wild kind) or pubs. Care driving on the narrow approach roads is essential. But anyone who has driven in Ireland or Scotland will be able for Welsh country roads. I would come back.

We first visited Banceithin through Sawday's some years ago, and we keep on returning. Why? Because it's such a relaxing place to stay. Plus we love David and Philippa's eco-credentials. Plus they keep adding delightful extras such as the tree-house and the sundowner bench. Plus the pigs are delightful - and the sausages delicious. We've stayed in both cottages and love them equally. Each has its own attraction - be sure to take your old LPs to play in Hen Ffermdy. There are loads of places on the Ceredigion coast within easy reach. Or you can just chill out on the smallholding. It's lovely.

Cath, Abergavenny

We have lost count the amount of times we have stayed at David and Philippa's but we loved it from the first time we went that we wanted to share with our friends on our last visit. We are disappointed that not been able to visit it this year 2017 but we always compare everywhere we stay to Banceithin and they can never match what D and P offer. Accommodation is fab, beautiful countryside, lovely welcome, the "bible" is best information pack you will ever find, Wales is stunning, loads to do, D &P have thought of everything go you will not regret it, total relaxation/down time homefromhome x

Melanie, Hornchurch

Superb, stylish self catering. With sustainability as their goal, everything has been thought through with great care and their guests' comfort in mind. The attention to detail is outstanding. Even Teri, the collie has mastered the perfect welcome. We particularly enjoy the local interest material for this beautiful, often overlooked, part of Wales. I can't decide whether it's better to be there in winter, warm and cosy behind thick walls or sitting outside in glorious spring sunshine. Either way, local produce and Philippa's tasty cooking from the freezer make for very easy self catering.

Elizabeth, Kent

Complete peace and relaxation in beautiful surroundings with everything at hand for a wonderful four night stay. We found it very difficult to drag ourselves away from the cottage each day to explore the area, but the effort was rewarded. Back at work now, but still calm and serene! Thanks to David and Philippa for creating such a haven.

Caroline, Darlington

David and Phillipa couldn't have been more helpful. We were provided with 'the Bible' of things to do, places to eat and more. My husband and I stayed with our 3 year old in the large house, and we had a great time. Bed was incredibly comfortable and general decor and finishings were modern but cosy. We have recommended to friends and family and hope to return soon. Our 3 year old absolutely loved watching the farm animals and going on the treasure hunt. Plenty of games on site to keep you entertained as well as beautiful country walks. Thank you for a wonderful holiday :)

We stayed at Hen Ffermdy and absolutely loved the cottage. The area is beautiful and the animals, especially the begging chickens, are great fun. David and Phil are excellent hosts and always around to give helpful advice or to supply delicious pies and jam. We hope to return next year for another holiday of peace and relaxation.
