At the southern tip of Harris in a wild clifftop setting, two adjoining purpose-built lodges, lovingly conceived by welcoming and creative resident owners Carol and Rob. Eco-friendly, awash with light and views through large windows, internal spaces are bright and airy. The open plan living area flows through to the exactingly specified kitchen; white walls set off carefully chosen pieces of furniture, iconic designs from the 1950s-70s. Uncluttered bedrooms come with crisp white Egyptian cotton, black-out blinds, bespoke Harris Tweed fabrics, even a Japanese bath, and more of those glorious views: have a soak and gaze out to sea. Bathrooms are sparkling, with hand-made soap and fluffy robes. Champagne in your welcome pack, logs for the fire, fishing rods provided, paints and easels at hand, picnic basket and blanket there for your use. Spend days walking, spotting eagles and dolphins, or lazing on a sandy beach. If the weather turns, stay in and browse the books, play games or watch a movie. Rustle up a dinner of hand-dived scallops or eat out: it’s only a couple of miles to a restaurant (and shop).

The experience of staying in the Big House was inspirational. The house is beautifully designed, very comfortable and perfectly located for enjoying the wild landscapes of Harris. The owners were lovely and very happy to help us in anyway they could sharing their knowledge of the geology, wildlife and local points of interest. We loved the house so much we stayed for a month! It was one of the best holidays we have had. Thank you.

A superb house in an amazing location. The attention to detail is outstanding - everything is very high quality and stylish but also cosy and comfortable. Sitting, looking out over the water, watching the ever changing weather is so relaxing you really don't need to go anywhere else!

Christine, Falkirk

AMAZING! The island location, the welcome, the house all simply stunning. I'm a big fan of mid century modern furniture and this place is filled with classics, put together from a lifetime of collecting and passion. The house is super-stylish yet cosy and comfortable and the owners go out of their way for you. Harris is incredible and the walks, wildlife, kayaking and swimming on offer second to none.

Local points of interest from Rob & Carol Graham

  • The development is also our family home and site of our fledgling Tweed weaving business - Borrisdale Tweed. Learn about the rich heritage of Tweed production in the Hebrides.
  • The Sound is a truly pristine marine environment. Watch a pod of porpoise from the kitchen or living room windows, the spectacle of gannets plunging rapier-like into the water or otters in the kelp at low tide.
  • Renish Point is one of the best rock fishing locations in the Hebrides. Catch pollock or mackerel literally from the bottom of the croft, yards from the house, or from numerous marks along the headland. Straight from the sea to the barbecue!
  • Take a trip to St Kilda from Leverburgh. A truly life changing experience that will remain with you always. Orcas and minke whales on the crossing. The awe inspiring site of precipitous cliffs and stacks. The eerie quiet of the ruins in Village Bay.
  • Take a walk on the beach at Luskentyre. A seemingly endless expense of shell sand. Washed by the icy Atlantic. Big skies. The horizon punctuated by mountains - otherworldly on a summer day!
  • Harris is home to the largest population of golden eagles in Western Europe. The resident pair at Toe Head can often be spotted soaring on a thermal over the prominent peak of Cheapabhal a short drive from the accommodation.
