The location is stunning with plenty of walks from the door. Go for a hike or just a gentle stroll and enjoy the scenery. A great get away from it all but not too far from town for shops and takeaway. The cottage is comfy, clean and had all we needed. Owners very friendly and welcoming. We also loved the sheep!!

We had at wonderful week at Steading cottage. The cottage itself is lovely, comfortable and really well equipped. It's garden is pretty and we loved the fire pit! The location is ideal - brilliant walking in the glorious Pentland Hills right from the doorstep, and also a handy base for longer trips. It was great to be based on a working farm and the owners arer really helpful and friendly. Very highly recommended, and we will be going back. Howard and Christine

Beautiful cottage in a lovely setting. Everything was perfect

Steading cottage is a gem of a cottage. We stayed in the cold of January, but the cottage was toasty warm; there was a gorgeous log burning fire that we lit for effect rather than the need for warmth. The views from the bedroom windows of the surrounding scenery were delightful, and on one morning dusted with snow. On arrival there were delicious scones for us. A rucksack with thermos and mugs was helpfully provided to encourage us to get out there walking. There were plenty of maps provided to assist with that sort of project. I would love to go back there!

This is a wonderful cottage with very nicely thought out spaces. The open downstairs is spacious and very cosy. The sofas are comfortable and the kitchen incredibly well equipped. Nothing extra needed. Easy drive into the city as well. The bedrooms are cosy and beds comfortable. The parking is easy. The storage is great and walking dogs straight out of the back door is absolutely wonderful. The family are great and live next door if you need them. We parked our car near the cottage so we could let wet dogs dry off before they came in

We visit Edinburgh once a year and our 'go to' place to stay is Eastside Cottages. We've stayed in three of the cottages but we especially like The Steading. It really is a home-from-home from the welcome tea and scones, the warming log fire and to the crisp bed linen with comfy pillows. The standard of cleanliness is always of an exceptionally high standard - as a working sheep farm - no easy task. Walks in the surrounding country are truly inspiring and yet you are only a few minutes from the centre of Edinburgh or border towns like Peebles. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

We spent a week here, from 11 - 17 Oct 2019. Amazing location, so quiet and peaceful. Surrounding area is excellent with lovely walks along the Pentland Hills, offering amazing views. The cottage was clean and to a very high standard. Susan had provided jams and scones for our arrival! The cottage is located as past of a renovated farmhouse, about 10 mins. up a farm track from the A class road, A702, NW of Penicuik. We will certainly return. Well done to the owners, who couldn't be more friendly and helpful.

An amazing location with stunning views and walks. The cottage was beautiful, very comfortable, very well equipped, and extremely well presented.

I have stayed here a few times and it's a great place to switch off but not that far from the city.

If you are looking for the perfect idyllic location but you don’t want to be too far from Edinburgh then I highly recommend this place. Four fantastic cottages,each with their own unique character and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. The location is absolutely stunning no matter what time of year you visit and Susan is the perfect host. The welcome home-baked scones are a classy touch especially. We had an absolutely fantastic time here and I would have to say that never mind visiting we just wanted to stay full time. Book a break here,you certainly won’t be disappointed.

We have been visiting the Scottish borders for many years and without doubt this property takes every box on our agenda. It is beautifully situated in the heart of the Pentland Hills, all the properties are extensively equipped, well appointed and comfortable, Conveniently situated for all aspects of Edinburgh life and indeed so accessible to the whole of the south of Scotland.. Couple that with a warm helpful, and friendly hosts and one would be hard pushed to find a more attractive Holiday home in Scotland, or indeed in the United Kingdom,

After having been to Eastside farm for 11 times, we are still amazed by the high standard of the cottage and the warm welcome we receive upon arrival. The Cowan family is very helpful when needed, without being too visible. The cottage is in the middle of the Pentland hills on a working sheep farm and from your doorstep you can walk endlessly. However, in just 30 minutes by car you are in middle of the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh with it's countless tourist attractions. Due to the remote location, the cottage is best reached by car.
