Find a super-comfy sitting room with wood-burning stove, antique furniture and family portraits on the ground floor; and a kitchen with all you need to cook up a storm. Bursting bookshelves lead you upstairs to two double bedrooms, one with a Tudor four-poster, the other with an Italian theme – and a Norwegian bed! You’re surrounded by eight acres of garden, home to a startling collection of over 400 rhododendron species and hybrids, hundreds of acers and sorbus. We stayed in the Garden House at Ard Daraich and I must say it was the most beautifully appointed accommodation I think we have ever enjoyed. From the extra large living room with a powerful wood stove that heated the room in no time to the period armchairs, to the Elizabethan four poster bed and shelves of beautiful books and DVDs, it was a very cosy retreat from the world. Being mid winter, we didn't get to enjoy the garden in leaf/bloom but we did take a wander and get a feel for how magical it must be in the warmer months -- with rustic benches overlooking Loch Linnhe. We loved our stay

John, Crieff

Cosy and elegant accommodation. Ana and Norri are clearly lovely people who have there priorities right in our opinion. Big towels, sharp knives, warm stove and a comfortable bed. We will definitely be going back one day especially as it is the place I said yes to marrying my lovely man, ( and yes there was a ring.)

Katie, Kelso

We have had three wonderful visits to Ard Daraich and on every return we have discovered new delights in the area. Comfortable accommodation in atmospheric surroundings.

Kathryn, Durham

We have returned to the Garden Studio for a number of years. We know Anna and Norrie will give us a lovely welcome and that this delightfully designed cottage/studio, set in Norrie's wonderful garden, will be as special as ever. We love the place.

Chris, Brighton

A wonderful cottage which has been beautifully finished set in beautiful gardens. It has a lovely wood burner with a huge basket of logs supplied and an array of interesting books to chose from when the weather is not so good. The location was perfect for us with trips to Sanna Bay, Glenfinnan Viaduct and Arisaig. Norrie and Anna were very helpful with suggestions for lovely places to eat locally and even a change of our route home to include the Mhor 84, which was well worth the visit. Definitely recommend and we would return.

Staying in the Garden Cottage is, as ever, a wonderful experience. I’m leaving early tomorrow with great reluctance as this part of the world is so beautiful and Anna and Norrie are such wonderful hosts. Even now, after several visits, they advise me on new walks to take and places to visit, and make me feel so welcome and relaxed I have slept like a log every night. This time I’ve particularly enjoyed walks on the nearby beach and looking up at the stars on a clear night. Yesterday, I saw an otter as I came home and could hear the call of the rutting stags from up the glen - magic!

Hosts Norrie & Anna incredibly hospitable and friendly during our week long stay at The Garden House, Ard Dariach. Amazing location, nestled just back from one of the most scenic, quiet and picturesque lochs in the Inner Hebrides opposite Fort William. The accommodation is very comfortable and stylish. We enjoyed the self catering aspect, in particular, the fabulous fish which we chose from the weekly visit from the fishmonger. The garden is splendid, many plants, including colourful rhododendrons and an abundance of wild flowers and green shrubbery. We can't recommend this place more highly.

Fiona, Wargrave

We had a wonderful stay in the Garden Studio cottage at Ard Daraich. A beautiful, peaceful and cosy home from home in a stunning location. If you’re thinking about booking – don’t hesitate!

Helen, Edinburgh

Stayed in studio garden cottage . loved this place. Stunning. A joy to be there. The hosts were lovely. It was humble. The fresh eggs divine. The scenery around beautiful. The bath amazing to relax in. The drying room so handy. Nothing to fault we had a lovely stay and can't wait to return

Having recently returned from Ard Daraich (my 3rd visit) we've just booked to go back next Spring. It's utterly magical. Everything thing about it is just perfect. Anna & Norrie are wonderful hosts and are so generous with their time showing you round the gardens, giving you tips on where to go and what to see.... just making you feel incredibly welcome. The surrounding area is a place of such beauty and we never tire of exploring Ardnamurchan. I can't wait to be back there.

Eileen, London

There is a rare quality to time spent at Ard Daraich. Even though the call of the outdoors will no doubt fill your days, there seems to be the perfect amount of time to enjoy exactly what you choose to do. I suspect Anna and Norrie are Sorcerers, commanding peace to fall over Ardnamurchan and it is easy to succumb to their enthusiastic yet 'down to the very earth' way of living. I haven’t exactly been everywhere else on the planet to compare but I have notched up a few far flung havens in my time and this one is very, very, very special. Go and be charmed.

Alice, London

Heeding the advice of previous visitors, I DID stay longer - a week, in fact. With so many places, the reality never lives up to the hyperbole of guest comments and owner websites, but visiting Ard Daraich lives up to it all and more. I could go on about the beautiful wilderness, golden eagles and the wonderfully laid-back pace of life. However, the biggest highlight is Anna and Norrie themselves - their genuine interest in their guests and the superb way in which they helped me plan my stay. Every morning, over a delicious breakfast, we'd plan my day and each one was truly memorable.

We'd wholeheartedly endorse all the previous comments left by other visitors: a very special, delightfully charming, peaceful, and beautiful house and garden. Treat yourself to several nights here. Anna and Norrie are gracious hosts blending just the right amount of friendliness, helpfulness and leaving you to yourselves. Norrie's passion for their garden is captivating.

Wanted to say how wonderful my two day stay at Ard Daraich was in June 2013. Charming, erudite hosts with great knowledge of local area and their amazing garden, comfortable room with fresh smelling bed linen and delicious breakfasts. Like staying in a friend's country house. Loch Linnhe is on the doorstep and the countryside is delightful, even if I failed to see an otter!

Such a magical place,a real treat for body and soul. Anna and Norrie are welcoming, approachable but discrete and their cottage and its garden a bolt hole from a busy world. We were blessed with good weather for exploring the majestic peninsula and nearby Isle of Mull but The Garden Cottage would lend itself to a wintry weekend holed up with a fire, good food with books and films a plenty.

Spectacular stay Hosts Norris & Anna incredibly hospitable and friendly during our week long stay at The Garden House, Ard Dariach. Amazing location, nestled just back from one of the most scenic, quiet and picturesque lochs in the Inner Hebrides opposite Fort William. The accommodation is very comfortable and stylish. We had a really lovely couple of days here last summer. Anna and Norrie were exceptionally warm and engaging hosts. Their home is beautifully decorated and full of interesting books, films and paintings. The surrounding area is gorgeous. It rained continuously but somehow that just added to the charm. Anna's food recommendations were all spot on - and Norrie's breakfast delicious. Thank you!

Charlotte, London

Anna and Norrie gave us the most marvelous welcome, to their delightful home (including a much needed pot of tea after a long day cycling around Lissmore) and we couldn't have felt more at home. Their garden is a real extra-ordianry, and it would have been nice to have had more time to explore it, but at least we were able to taste of it, and are now firmly converted to the idea of blackcurrants in our porridge! Altogether a lovely place to stay with two charming hosts, who gave us excellent suggestions about exploring the area.

David, Guildford

Anna and Norrie were wonderful hosts - made us feel very relaxed, provided great breakfasts and were helpful in sharing their knowledge about the area. The location is beautiful (even in a bit of rain!) and seeing an otter was a highlight.

Clare, London

It really is as lovely as the picture the earlier reviews paint. Very much recommended!

Local points of interest from Norrie & Anna Maclaren

  • Before you go anywhere, you must immerse yourself in the GARDEN; it has spectacular views and is a well-known collection of ericaceous plants. TOURS with Norrie can be arranged - you might even find some unusual plants in our small nursery!
  • We are a short distance from some beautiful MOUNTAINS and GLENS; you might want to CLIMB Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, or loose yourself in the awe-inspiring Glen Coe. The Ardnamurchan peninsula in one of Scotland’s most accessible wildernesses.
  • Even on rainy days, we are a cosy bolt-hole with views up the Great Glen to Ben Nevis. We also have loads of BOOKS and DVDs to watch, in fact - you might find this aspect of the place a real winner during your visit.
  • The local PRODUCE from sea and land is the world-renowned, while there are award-winning restaurants and bars all around. The White House in Lochaline and the Loch Leven SEAFOOD Café are two we’d recommend.
  • We can help you with your ITINERIES, as we have a lifetime of knowledge of the area; we love chatting about routes to get the very best of the restaurants, mountains, otters, whales, eagles, beaches and woodland walks.
  • All in all, we make every effort to make your visit MEMORABLE, and we always look forward to our enthusiasm for the Highlands with newcomers and returning visitors alike.
