The
Experience

There’s a rare gem hidden behind the slightly dour exterior of this Victorian tenement. You’re up on the first floor with tons of space – rooms are elegant and unfussy, simply decorated and full of natural light. Derek, Gemma and Derek’s dad Jim put their hearts into restoring this charming apartment. No need to sprint for the best bedroom – both are enviably big, restrained and uncluttered but still full of everything you could possibly need. The gleaming state-of-the-art shower room has a lavish supply of goodies, and the pristine dove-grey kitchen, white tiled and wood floored, takes the sting out of cooking duties. The makings of a splendid continental breakfast are thoughtfully supplied, but any long-felt want can be met on Leith Walk, one of Edinburgh’s longest streets. You’re at the midpoint of its vibrant, hipsterish mix of tapas bars, Portuguese coffee houses, galleries and antique stores. If rain stops play, collapse by the fire in the elegant blue and white sitting room and take full advantage of the free Netflix.

Reviews

Don’t be put off by the entrance - this is a very comfortable and elegantly appointed, spacious two bedroom apartment. We two mature couples loved staying there. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and supermarkets within easy reach. Buses to the city and Leith are frequent from stops outside the entrance and the bedrooms are very quiet. We’d go back in a shot.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Derek & Gemma Kennedy

  • There is a Leith Farmers Market every Saturday that is only about a 15 min walk from the apartment. Well worth a visit.
  • The Royal Yacht Britannia is within walking distance from the apartment and a must for anyone visiting Edinburgh. The Britannia has been voted best tourist attraction in Scotland for a 10th year running.
  • Arthurs Seat is a must visit and again within walking distance. Beautiful walks with views across the entire city on a clear day.
