The
Experience

Wow! A stunner of a flat overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens and within easy walking distance of trendy Stockbridge, where you can dine at Tom Kitchin’s Scran & Scallie Bistro. Once part of a handsome Georgian mansion, it retains its elegance but has a smart, crisp feel, with pops of colour, bright rugs and cushions and cool kitchen chairs. It’s down several steps at lower ground level but is spacious and flooded with light. Owner Claudia greets and knows what makes a place special and spoiling so you’re left top-notch coffee, wine, homemade jam and essentials. Bedrooms have views and you’ll sleep like a baby on excellent mattresses; the master room has an oak four-poster, green tartan textiles and a sparkling en suite shower room, while the other two bedrooms are Shaker style and share a spotless bathroom. The swish kitchen is a dream to cook in, filled with mod cons, and you can gather around the big dining table or out on the front terrace. The sitting room is an inviting space to unbend (comfy sofa and armchairs, lots of books, big TV and a wood-burner) after a day’s marching around delightful Edinburgh.

Reviews

I viewed the apartment on your website and on our arrival it fully lived up to our expectations. We were met by Claudia, who had waited for us as our flight to Edinburgh had been delayed. She showed us around the apartment which was beautifully decorated and fitted out. The kitchen appliances were particularly impressive. The three double bedrooms are of a generous size one with an en suite shower room. The location suited us perfectly as it was a short stroll to many of the features and experiences of Edinburgh. The apartment actually backs onto the Royal Botanic Gardens!

The apartment is spotlessly clean, stylishly decorated and huge! All three bedrooms are spacious and the beds are super comfy. Linen is luxurious, bathrooms have luxury soaps, shampoos etc. You don't need to bring a thing. That said, the wardrobes are huge so this place would be ideal for a long stay. The kitchen was superb, equipped with everything you will need. Plenty of room for six people to eat and relax. The location is great - a peaceful haven right next to the Botanic Gardens which we loved visiting. Plentiful parking right outside but it's an easy to walk to all the main attractions

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Claudia Daventry

  • Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden was established in 1670 and boasts extraordinary plants, trees and glasshouses. You're right next door: in fact, your kitchen window gives right onto the Botanic nursery: a private view.
  • The apartment is in a quiet residential neighbourhood just a stone's throw from Inverleith Park and the neo-gothic towers of Fettes College, inspiration for J K Rowling's Hogwarts school.
  • The Botanic Apartment is at garden level -- its large windows make it bright and airy -- in an imposing sandstone villa which used to house Edinburgh College of Art.
  • Walk along the lovely Water of Leith to pick up fresh coffee and warm cinnamon buns for breakfast from Peter Ljungquist's Swedish bakery Söderberg - http://www.soderberg.uk/our-cafes/ - or to Leith Docks to the Royal Yacht Britannia and Malt Whisky Vaults.
  • ...or stroll up to the cobbled streets of Dean Village and take in Scotland's Museums of Modern Art (i and ii). Walk 20 minutes the other way, up Broughton Street or via Stockbridge and you'll come to theatres, cinemas and Edinburgh's main shopping streets
  • Hip Stockbridge with its restaurants, bars, cafés and quirky shops is a lovely walk through parks.
