The
Experience

A 1780 dower house for the Dukes of Argyll – their cottage by the sea. Built of local stone, it sits high on the hill with long views over Oban harbour to the Isle of Mull. A lovely small hotel with a stylish old-school feel; lounge in front of a fire in the drawing room, scramble up to McCaig’s Tower for sunsets over the Hebrides, spot wildlife through binoculars from your bedroom.

Breakfast on traditional porridge, French toast, pastries and Loch Fyne kippers. Hike and bike from your doorstep; walk down to the harbour for boat trips in search of whales, porpoises, and dolphins. There are lots of islands close by – find long stretches of sandy coastline, rambling forests and mountains to climb.

Drink whisky at the Oban Distillery, or head back up the hill to the Manor House for afternoon tea on the terrace. You can dine on a five-course feast at the restaurant; perhaps the west coast sea bass, saddle of lamb or squid ink tagliatelle – the menu changes daily.

Reviews

This is a most attractive small hotel situated in the outskirts of the town of Oban. The bedrooms are most tastefully decorated in tweeds and plaid and all have fresh flowers, fruit and chocolates.

Anne, Sawday's inspector

We stay at the Manor House every December to celebrate our wedding anniversary and also pop in for lunch throughout the year. There's always a warm welcome and we feel very at home - sanctuary!

Location

The neighbourhood

The Manor House sits on top of a hill on the outskirts of Oban; walk down to the town in 10 minutes for restaurants, shops, musuems and watersports in the harbour. Hire bikes and set off for Connel or Taynuilt through forest tracks or hilly cyle paths; take the Sustrans route to Fort William through stunning scenery.
