Estate Escapes

York, Yorkshire

Style and scenery in a pretty East Yorkshire village. A log stove, large lawn, luxurious rooms...and Victoria makes families feel at home

3 places

Sleeping from 4 – 6

If the Edwardian gatehouse to Hotham Hall makes a handsome base for exploring East Yorkshire, its setting – an enchanting Wolds village near historic towns, good eateries and trails – inspires. Charming Victoria makes scrumptious lemon drizzle cake with home-laid eggs and has a magpie’s eye at auctions: a kitchen table from a York library, a painted chest by squishy cream sofas, quirky ceramics, ornaments in alcoves, and bright gingham blinds for floodlit windows. Cook sociably at a six-ring stove, dine at one big table, gather by the log-burner, retreat to beanbags and a sofabed in the cosy snug… on sunny days, sip wine under a parasol while the kids rampage over a lovely shrub-lined lawn. Pad upstairs to sinking carpets, leafy views, soft linen and a fresh New England palette dashed with colourful cushions. Indulge in monsoon showers, waffle robes, organic lotions; book a massage for some ‘me’ time, or a chef for special occasions. From the dungeons of York to the culinary heights of Michelin-starred restaurants, there are multiple attractions within easy reach – starting across the lane in the Yorkshire Wolds.

Stayed at Park Cottage (one of Estate Escapes cottages) for a long weekend in February 2018. The cottage far exceeded our expectations; the furnishings and bed linen were lovely, it was spotlessly clean and the garden was immaculate (and would be great in the summer months). It's in a lovely location too. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous ! Rented Clitheroe and Park cottages as base for our son' wedding. Very comfortable and Victoria 's cake and the Prosecco a treat! We will return.
