The Experience

Sue and Mark give you relaxation and a dollop of contemporary chic in their 1890s farmhouse on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Smart bedrooms have sitting areas with garden views; those in the barn are just as luxuriously comfortable. There’s a sitting room to settle in too with stacks of books, squashy sofas and maps. Outside find a series of dazzling ‘zones’ with a stone-flagged terrace with clumps of thrift, miniature geraniums, euphorbias and pots of blue agapanthus. In front is a red bed made up of oriental poppies, dahlias, tulips and penstemon, then stone steps down to a formal garden. Golden hops scrabble over an obelisk, a pond is surrounded by sunny herb beds and hedging breaks it up into sections. There’s a woodland walk, impressive sweeping borders, a cobblestone walk ambling along a stream with a little bridge, planted around with gunnera, periwinkle and comfrey, leading to a thriving pond. A little lawned area surrounded by cherry trees has a perfect seating spot; a garden for quiet contemplation, filled with birdsong.

Reviews

A very well run establishment offering a high standard of accommodation and service. Our room was spacious and beautifully presented. Breakfast, served in a converted barn, was delicious and plentiful. Sue and her staff made sure that we had everything we needed and more.

Kathleen and Alan, Aberdeen

A wonderful place to stay, big rooms with comfortable beds, lots of attention to detail. Sue and Mark are very welcoming and the breakfasts are terrific.

John, Farnham

This is a fantastic place to stay ... a lovely warm welcome from Sue with a pot of tea and homemade biscuits, beautiful big room with our own entrance, spotlessly clean, lovely linen and a big comfy bed. Great breakfast with local produce and homemade jams and Sue and her team of lovely smiley girls ensuring you have everything you need. Even offered a doggy bag of homemade cake as we left. Lots to do in the area - Fountains Abbey, Bolton Abbey and a visit to Harrogate is essential. Would highly recommend Cold Cotes and we’d love to come back in the summer when the garden is in full bloom.

We loved our stay. The garden was huge and lovely and we did a nice walk there each morning before breakfast. Sue went out of her way to make sure we all had everything we wanted. We almost felt like royalty!

A friendly welcome from the owners! Beautiful rooms, super breakfasts, plenty of space to relax. The garden was lovely but lacked any seating and it would have been a perfect place to sit and read a book in the evening sunshine otherwise. would happily go again and recommend it as a place to stay. Visiting Brimham rocks nearby was a highlight for me! A wonderful area.

CATHERINE
