The Experience

Wind your way up a long peaceful track to this converted stable, now an enchanting cottage surrounded by an English country garden. Delightful Ellie, who lives on the property, bakes a cake specially for your arrival and fills the house with fresh flowers.

You have a wood-burner and Aga to keep things cosy and the private patio looks out onto valleys and ancient woodland that you’re free to explore – look out for woodpeckers, rabbits and badgers. Free range children have seven acres to discover, a pond to mess about in and a secret treehouse with hammocks.

The setting is spectacular: resting on the borders of three counties, this is prime walking country and you’re surrounded by bridleways and footpaths. Bustling Ledbury and Ludlow, England’s Slow Food capital, are just a drive away so stock up and bring everything back for the barbecue on fine days or the easy kitchen if not – you can order home cooked food to be waiting for you if you’d rather not do either.

Reviews

A deeply peaceful and extremely comfortable stay. There is a secret, magical, ancient feel about the place. Dotted with beautiful creations large and small. Special sanctuaries, 'hobbit houses' with woodburners, a hidden tree house in owl and badger filled woodland which you are free to roam. Lovely walks. The best swing ever for all -including 85 year olds! A loved and lovely garden. Views from all windows. Cosy warmth from aga. Everything of use or beauty. Recommend taking all food you need so do not have leave. Eleanor is a wonderfully skilled and generous creator. A kind, thoughtful host

It felt like we were walking into home, and could relax immediately. Such a well proportioned and thought out house wanting for nothing. Situated in a hidden gem of a location with no light pollution, plenty birdsong, owls, woodpeckers, wrens and yellow hammers, lambs, spring flowers, glorious walks straight out of the back door, wonderful recommendations on the web site. We found peace and restoration in abundance, thanks to Ellie's thoughtfulness.

My wife and I stayed at Long Cover Cottage for a couple of nights and we loved every minute of it. From the minute we drove up the long drive and caught sight of the cottage we were enchanted. The gardens and surrounding land are delightful - little did we know how many hidden gems we would find when we explored later. The cottage is magical from the beautiful handmade kitchen through to the light welcoming living room and the comfortable bed in the downstairs bedroom. The cottage and grounds are quirky, individual, inviting and practically perfect in every way. Highly recommended.

Our first visit to Long Cover Cottage was everything we love and expect of a holiday home - character in abundance , stunning scenery , luxury beds and bedding , and the warmest of welcomes by Ellie to her home (yummy cake). A real rural retreat yet so near (by car) to beautiful countryside and towns( Ludlow is the best by far). Awakening to buzzing bees, bird song and baa baa of sheep is so relaxing, a perfect way to wind down. Ellie's garden is the crowning glory - awesome. Fantastic to find a cottage which has welcomed visitors for so many years - we'll be back - thank you for sharing.

Karen, Haywards Heath

Never disappointed with a Sawdays recommended property and Long Cover Cottage totally lived up to all 'extremely high expectations'. Stunning scenery and rustic top class taste at every turn - just what we wanted for our family holiday. Ellie works so hard to make this beauty spot even more awesome - so worth all the hard work. Warm welcome and 'home from home' feel - totally perfect rural retreat yet only 10 minutes by car from Tenbury Wells - so near and yet so far from the busy lives we all lead - thank you for sharing your home - Karen and David from West Sussex

This was our 2nd stay at Long Cover Cottage having stayed with friends last year. This Easter we enjoyed another fantastic break with parents visiting from Canada and our 3 boys. Eleanor is an awesome host, the home beautiful and the surrounding countryside is absolutely picturesque. Perfect for all three generations. Thanks again and i’m sure a 3rd visit is inevitable

Nathan, London

I couldn’t recommend this cottage highly enough. It’s idyllic and quirky, just like it looks in the pictures. The location is so peacefully beautiful and my two dogs thought the garden was heavenly, with a lovely walk through the adjacent ancient woodland. The beds are luxurious and the kitchen is very well equipped. There are unlimited logs for the fire and the Aga is a constant cosy source of warmth. The owner was so friendly and accommodating even baking us a delicious Victoria sponge in our arrival.

This is a truly special place to stay. The cottage and grounds are quite magical, it was so much more than we expected. It's a place to retreat from the world and recharge, we came away feeling refreshed. There are lots of ways to be together here, but also corners to curl up in alone. The tree house by candlelight was very special. We will definitely be back. Thank you Ellie.

There aren't the words to describe how wonderful Long Cover Cottage made us feel. It is a truly beautiful place to stay & exceeds all expectations. The cottage is furnished & equipped to a very high standard & feels more like home rather than a holiday rent. The grounds are well cared for & include a fairy house & tree swings which the children adored. There is a forest area, a pond & beautiful flowers & shrubs everywhere. The owner is kind & lovely, nothing is too much trouble, she even baked a cake for our arrival. We spent hours both relaxing inside and walking through the grounds. Lovely!

Kate, Penrith

Beautiful property in a stunning location. Made to feel so welcome, it was cosy and comfortable with all the little touches that made it feel special but homely. Fresh flowers throughout the cottage and Ellie made a delicious cake to welcome us, just what we needed after a long drive. It was so peaceful, with plenty of lovely walks, just what we needed to recharge our batteries. I can't praise it and Ellie highly enough we have stayed in many beautiful hotels and locations around the world , and long Cover is right up there with them, but with the added personal touch.

Aine, Bedfordshire

My family spent two weeks at Long Cover, and we really enjoyed our stay. Ellie is a charming host, and the house is so comfortable. The beds are great, the kitchen fun to use, and there is plentiful seating. The cottage has been restored very thoughtfully. The garden and grounds were especially delightful, and we really appreciated the ability to feel so at home. The area is fantastic. We'd made a long site-seeing list before we arrived, but with Long Cover Cottage being as appealing as it is, we found ourselves unwilling to travel too far from "home" ... Luckily, there is a lot to do nearby!

Anne, Greenville

Long Cover Cottage is an amazing place to stay. We enjoyed a weeks stay and would definitely recommend it. Our children loved the gardens as did we and our 3 dogs. Tranquil and serene and by far the best British holiday we have had as a family so far. Ellie is a fantastic host and will do anything to help make your stay a memorable one. We loved it that much we are booked up to go back again this year.

Location

The neighbourhood

This bucolic corner of England is at the borders of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, and there are walks from the door through footpaths and bridleways where you can spot plenty of wildlife, including rabbits, badgers, buzzards and woodpeckers. The nearest town for stocking up is Tenbury Wells, three miles away: as well as independent shops and a supermarket, there are some good eating places: Pembroke House serves excellent food in a traditional 16th century pub with a garden.
