The
Experience

You’ll love the Woodford Valley and this thatched cottage at the edge of the village. It has long views, stacks of character and traditionally decorated rooms: a ground floor twin with roll top bathroom and two cosy doubles upstairs that share a bathroom. Fabrics are flowered, headboards upholstered, mattresses top quality. Or choose to snuggle up by the wood-burner in a charming shepherd’s hut and sleep out under the stars – one has a king-sized bed. Breakfast in the kitchen, or pretty garden, on Annie’s homemade bread and good things local – Ella looks after you well if Annie is away. Head out to explore Avebury and Stonehenge.

The Garden Cottage was absolutely perfect! Annie is a wonderful host. We stayed in the Shepherd's Hut which was idyllic. After checking in, we squeezed in a visit to Salisbury Cathedral before dinner at the Wheatsheaf that Annie had reserved for us. The next morning Annie accommodated our early schedule with a delicious breakfast of farm fresh eggs, bacon, sausage and homemade granola and yogurt. We had not packed appropriately for the cold weather and Annie lent us warm hats and scarfs to use for our very cold 8:00am visit to Stonehenge. My wife and I highly recommend Annie's Garden Cottage!

Perfect! Annie is a very sweet and kind person. Made us wonderful breakfast and for one night made us feel very comfortable. The room, house and surroundings were beautiful. Very nice place to stay. Thanks again Annie !

Annie's shepherds hut is absolutely lovely, a perfectly formed space with everything you need, it was so cosy in there, the wood burner really is very effective and in this beautifully kitted out hut you could survive a harsh arctic winter !, it has been very well designed and incredibly has a little bathroom complete with shower, sink and toilet. I could have stayed there for a very long time and planning to go back again this year, it will always be my favourite place to stay if I'm going back to see the 'stones' again. Annie's breakfast was absolutely perfect too, thanks Annie.

The Shepherd's Hut was a delightful surprise. It was cosy, comfortable and very well equipped as well as being meticulously planned. Comfy bed and good quality bathroom products. The wood burner worked brilliantly - very easy to light and really efficient. Annie is a lovely host, so friendly and warm, and her breakfasts, including her own granola, were delicious. It is a small space, but great for a short stay with someone you know well! The hut sits in the beautiful garden and the only sound we could hear was the polite clucking of the hens. Thank you Annie - we'll be back!

Sheila

What a wonderful experience with an amazing host. We were made to feel so welcome, the huts are cozy and quaint. The breakfast was delicious and all homemade. Our children have spoken about the huts with their friends and we would highly recommend a visit. 10 out of 10

We decided to stay at The Cottage on our daughter-in-laws recommendation who had been there twelve months earlier. On arrival we met Annie who immediately made us welcome. We shared tales and life stories over a cuppa and were made to feel so welcome. Our accommodation offer of Herbie (a Shepherds Hut) was immediately accepted and her recommendations for a walk and dinner were spot on. Annie's breakfast was superb. A memorable stay with a wonderful host was a highlight of our meandering trip through New Forrest and Wiltshire. A highly recommended destination. Thanks Annie

Staying in the shepherds hut is a wonderful experience and with Annie as your host you can't fail to be incredibly well looked after. The breakfast was outstanding. Homemade granola, yoghurt, compote, delicious free range scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, homemade juice...all absolutely divine. The house and huts are very pretty and welcoming. We couldn't have asked for more...and at such great value. Highly recommend! We will be back!

It was one of those holidays where the next weekend you think; this time last week we were at Annie's and you want to be back there again. Annie's welcome and hospitality is wonderful. The location is perfect in a lovely village where two minutes walk away there is a great pub with good food and good service ( even the dog was given a dog biscuit ). It is central for places like Old Sarum and Avebury ; but also has lovely walks just around the village. Finally , falling asleep listening to the distant calling or should that be hooting of the owls was magic. We will be back !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Annie's shepherd's hut, which had everything we could need, and a king sized bed, which was very comfortable. Our breakfasts were delicious, with home made juices and compote to go with our bacon, eggs and tomatoes, and a dear little black spaniel puppy came gambolling to meet us each day. The area is beautiful and we easily filled our days visiting Salisbury, Stonehenge, Avebury, and an afternoon pottery course. The local Bridge Inn is a fantastic place to eat, and Annie's guests get a discount! Altogether a wonderful weekend break.

Thouroughly enjoyed our stay in the Shepherds Hut, very comfortable clean and we were looked after wonderfully by our host Annie, breakfast was superb , home made juice and granola, great bacon, a brilliant start to the day. We left feeling like we were leaving a friend. Our dog Harry had a great time with Pip and Millie. Highly recommend a stay with Annie Neil and Mel

This was everything and more we could've wished for. Peaceful beautiful surroundings, Annie is a wonderful hostess who makes you so very welcome into her home. The Shepherds Hut we stayed in was so cosy clean & comfortable. We will definitely make a return, and highly recommend to our friends and family. Excellent home made breakfast and elderflower cordial. 10/10

We had a lovely stay and our hostess Annie made it very special with her welcoming nature! We liked very much staying in the ‘shepherd hut’ in the back yard. Although my husband is 1.87meter; he could easily stretch completely in the bed. We had a very nice time and hope to visit again! ! The river Avon is fantastic!

Our multi generational, multi national family of 8 on a mini road trip filled the cottage. We arrived after lunch and Annie greeted us and told us about the area. She sent us for a fabulous cream tea at the beautiful Heale Gardens nearby. Well fed and watered, we retired early to our luxurious sleeping quarters (garden huts were particularly charming). Up early, we saw dawn rise over Stonehenge and returned for a magnificent breakfast. Annie served homemade juice, granola, yogurt, eggs from her hens, delicious bacon and of course homemade jams and marmalade. A wonderful holiday for all.

Outstanding breakfast. The bacon was quite unlike wafer-thin supermarket, sugary strips: thick, cured bacon from a happy pig; the scrambled eggs were perfect. Coffee real, granola homemade, ginger-carrot-orange juice stunning. A privileged breakfast.

Jim, Potters bar

An idyllic break. I stayed in the shepherds hut at the back of the house which was cosy and peaceful. Everything was in place and I felt very at home. Annie was extremely welcoming and suggested some great walks and pubs. Her homemade breakfast was delicious.

A warm welcome from Annie to myself, my wife and Milly our dog. We spent one night there in Herbie the shepherds hut and it was a great experience. A king size comfortable bed, a log burning stove in the corner which gave all the heat you could ever need and an en-suite shower room with plenty of hot water. Annie did not mind our Milly having the run of the garden and she was invited to join us for breakfast in the Kitchen. Breakfast consisted of Annie's homemade granola, fresh eggs from her chickens plus bacon and sausage for the "Full English". Annie did everything to ensure satisfaction

Altogether a lovely experience. I stayed for 2 nights in one of the Shepherd's huts. It was really cute and cosy with a wood burning heater and electric blanket. The teas, hot chocolate and coffee provided were really very nice. the breakfast of granola with yoghurt, both hand made by Annie were beautiful. I have ordered some gift packs for Christmas presents. I would definitely recommend this as a lovely if not unusual place to stay. Summer would be much better and you can sit in the garden and have breakfast. It is so quiet and peaceful. Three pubs are close by of good quality.

I love Annie and her gorgeous welcoming home and incredibly generous heart! This was our second experience in a shepherd's hut in the area and Annie's, with its woodburner and many, many added thoughtful touches made me and my squeeze feel like we had come to visit an old friend. Quite an amazing breakfast of the highest quality bacon etc and homemade jams and granola. Top quality bed linen and the warmest of welcomes from a true hostess. In fact we had to buy her a present to thank her for her kindness and warmth. Can't recommend her highly enough.

We spent two delightful days in one of Annie's lovely Shepherd's Hut, once on the way down to Devon for a holiday and then again on the return journey back home. Simply lovely, Annie made our stay very special. Lovely breakfasts, with so much choice in her farmhouse kitchen. Lovely walks for the dogs and the gardens outside the huts are perfect for relaxing in. We were so entranced that we are staying with Annie again in September 2017. Thank you Annie for being such a wonderful host!

Sally, Herstmonceux

Annie has the most glorious home in a pretty rural setting. We loved the shepherds hut. Equipped with everything you could need. The woodburner was a lovely touch. Newborn lambs frolicked behind us, whilst the chickens quietly laid our breakfast eggs. Home made juices and granola were just a couple of the well considered breakfast options. As active people we really appreciated the thought put in to the breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for Annie to make our stay perfect. The most welcoming and engaging hostess, but equally respectful of our privacy too. We will return.
