The
Experience

A pretty village, a charming cottage; you’ll sleep soundly in what was once the old forge. Step through the grand oak door into a light and airy open-plan kitchen/dining/living room. The beamed ceiling soars above you, ancient chimneys have been cleverly restyled; in an old doorway a wood-burner (with logs on tap) keeps away chills, as does the underfloor heating. Cosy up on plump beige sofas with spotty cushions while the cook beavers away in the kitchen: they’ll be happy with the double oven and all the mod cons. You get extra glasses and crockery, a picnic set, travel cot, fresh flowers, a barbecue. Eat at the oak dining table (or outside in your own little gravelled garden with colourful tubs). Immaculate bedrooms are down a couple of steps: both overlook the well-kept courtyard and the owners home; one has an en suite, there’s an extra bathroom and a handy laundry room. Wander the fruit-laden orchard, pat the two Kune Kune pigs, visit the two sweet rescue donkeys, find the village playing fields and explore further for gentle walks through woods and farmland. Nearby eateries are plentiful: from pub grub to Michelin stars. Relaxing.

Reviews

Anvil Cottage has been renovated and decorated to very high standard. The house was cosy, warm (underfloor heating and the firewood that GillIan had thoughtfully provided were fantastic for the cold nights) and comfortable. The garden and setting around the house was beautifully maintained and was a real pleasure to stroll through. If you have kids, they will enjoy the donkeys! Finally GillIan was a great host - very warm and accommodating and gave us some really good suggestions for places to visit.

This was a spacious and beautifully decorated cottage that had everything we needed and more. A lovely environment and very welcoming hosts. The village was picturesque and the pub down the road was very handy for evening meals with no driving necessary. We loved it all!!

Amazing stay at Anvil Cottage! We arrived late afternoon and on arrival the owner gave us a very warm welcome then showed us around the cottage properly. There were 2 donkeys and 2 pigs in the backyard. We enjoyed to see them every morning. The property itself is very clean and tidy and has everything you would need. If you are looking for a nice place, come and stay here. The owners are very kind. The best accommodation ever.

An excellent cottage in a beautiful village. Plenty to see and visit nearby. Luckily we had very warm sunny weather and were able to have barbecues and sit out in the sunshine. We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed for 4 nights in March 2018 on a mixed business/vacation trip. The property is even nicer than it looks in the photos - beautifully appointed both internally and externally. The underfloor heating kept the cottage nice and warm at all times, and we supplemented that in the evenings with roaring log fires. The cottage is in the picturesque village of Biddestone and is well located for exploring the area, albeit you need a car to get around. We will certainly return if we visit the area again.

Anvil Cottage is a beautifully appointed, spacious holiday home in a charming village setting. Gill leaves a generous welcome hamper for guests and is unobtrusively available to answer guests' questions or make recommendations.

Our stay at Anvil Cottage was to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with our friends and we could not have wished for more comfortable and luxurious accommodation and such a welcoming host. It was lovely to explore the area during the day and return to a warm and cosy cottage in the evenings. We love cooking, so chose to cook which was a delight in the well-equipped kitchen and we entertained our friends in the spacious dining area. We would not hesitate to recommend Anvil Cottage!

Anvil cottage is simply superb! Beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped, Andrew and Gill have thought of everything their guests may need to make their stay comfortable whatever the weather. Lots to see and do in the area for all ages throughout the year whether it’s sports, theatre, museums, walking or dining. Easy travel to Bath and Bristol and into the surrounding countryside. Our family has visited three times and we’ve booked to return.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage, full of character and in a wonderful location. The cottage has a quite splendid front door, a spacious living room full of character and a really well stocked kitchen. The orchard was in full bloom as was the garden and it felt like another world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Great location to do day trips to Avebury and the villages around Bath. Plus great pubs and hiking in the vicinity. Gill was most welcoming - we really enjoyed our 1 week stay and look forward to returning in the future. Dominic and Kate

Highly recommendable! We stayed during a long weekend early December '14 and found this place exceeding our expectations. Very clean, roomy, modern appliances, comfortable furniture, stylish décor with attention to detail, and quirky boutique feel thanks to the love the owners have taken care of the place with. The "Welcome!" hamper and flowers set us off on the right foot and naturally the owners were very helpful with a little boiler glitch on departure day, which did not dampen our positive impressions we left our home for almost a week with. Meets even "high German expectations"! :)
