Reviews

What a fabulous place! From the minute you turn up into the drive you feel completely relaxed and in serenity. There are miles of rolling vineyards (which you can see from your bed!), and the barns themselves are so lovely. We loved sipping on the wine and gin whilst relaxing in the living room. Breakfasts are delicious too and it was great to have vegetarian options.

From the moment we pulled onto the drive we were impressed! That continued when we arrived at The Flint Barns and were greeted with a perfectly chilled glass of their Cradle Valley white. The team were wonderfully welcoming. The rooms were really comfortable with lovely bathrooms, and with a superb view of the estate. There was a real sense of calm about the place. And breakfast in the morning was delicious. We will definitely return!

Ellen, Bristol

In the heart of the rolling East Sussex Downs and surrounded by vines, this is the perfect place to stay for walkers, especially those with a love of exceptional food and wine. The attractive converted barn is at the end of a long drive but less than 10 minutes by car from the historic Alfriston village. Comfortable beds with high quality linen promise a good night's sleep.

What an amazing place! Adrian made our whole stay very pleasurable and we will definitely stay again. Such a unique setting and excellent quality accommodation. Yummy breakfast and enjoyed sampling the wine from the estate. Perfect events venue also.

claire

A great place for a B&B stop especially if you are walking the Downs and Adrian provides a map so you can't miss it when coming off the mains Downs pathway. Lovely location and such a well-appointed & furnished unique place to stay - even if the room, the smallest bunkbed room for 4, was definitely on the small size. The staff were great, full of advice and really friendly, but beware of other guests who may not be dog lovers and put a dampener on proceedings. The Rathfinny shop in Frictional also worth a visit - and book early for the vineyard tours. Definitely be back for the Sparkling wine.

Location

The neighbourhood

Rathfinny, an attractive converted barn, sits on a stunning south-facing slope in the South Downs of Sussex, just three miles from the sea. Its climate, chalk soils and aspect make it a perfect place to grow vines in a region that is already producing some of the best, award-winning English sparkling wines. The estate is at the end of a long drive but less than 10 minutes by car from the historic Alfriston village, where there are several good restaurants and pubs.

Local points of interest from Rathfinny Wine Estate

  • Tours and wine tastings are available every week, all year round. Learn about the history of the Rathfinny Wine Estate and see behind-the-scenes of our state of the art winery, followed by a Sussex wine tasting.
  • You don't have to travel far for excellent food and wine during your stay. Our Estate is home to two restaurants including the Michelin-recommended Tasting Room, cosy Flint Barns Dining Room and al-fresco wine bar, The Hut.
  • It’s a short walk up the valley to join the South Downs Way. A long distance footpath and bridleway running along the South Downs in southern England, and is one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales.
  • Cuckmere Valley is a haven for wildlife, from over-wintering wildfowl to colourful wild flowers. Cradle Valley is a wonderful example of the species-rich chalk grassland. This habitat attracts rare and colourful butterflies and plants in summer.
  • Alfriston village is consistently named one of the best and most prettiest villages in the UK. The quaint historic high street is home to independent shops, galleries and pubs and within walking distance of the Alfriston Clergy House & Garden.
  • We are very lucky to have so many places to visit. Seven Sisters Country Park, Charleston Farmhouse, Glyndebourne, Towner Gallery, Michelham Priory, Newhaven Fort and Lewes Castle are all within easy reach of the Flint Barns.
