The
Experience

You arrive down a wooded lane reputed to be one of the oldest in England: gates open to the mansion house and garden with swathes of lawn and frothy flower beds; your lovely cottage-on-one-floor is perched high beside your own private terrace with views across the Weald to the South Downs. The cosy living room (take your shoes off and don slippers provided) has white walls, painted furniture, pale rugs, splashes of pale blues and greens, a wood-burner and amazing views from the large windows. A beautifully-equipped galley kitchen looks out on an immaculate organic vegetable garden and has pretty china on a pale green dresser; you eat at a table by the window in the living room – or picnic in your own wildflower meadow outside. Sleep soundly in the dearest bedroom with white muslin at the window, painted floorboards, duck-egg blue walls and soft rugs; the bathroom has a proper bath with overhead shower and fluffy towels; the separate loo has the original Gothic wrought-iron window. Owner Jacqueline can leave you supper on your first night along with tomorrow’s breakfast. Long walks (or not) await. Romantic.

A really lovely cottage in a beautiful garden. Jackie and Paul are kind and generous hosts. We had a wonderful week.

Delightful hosts, no comfort unsupplied, gorgeous gardens and views, and we love Figgy, the pup. We hope they may travel to Santa Fe someday so we can share "our world".

We were 21 times in the UK for holiday, this time was the absolute topper. Jacqueline and Paul are very friendly and helpful. We love them very much. The cottage is decorated just like our taste and everything needed is present. Thanks for the nice flowers and sweets. We will certainly come back for another holiday.

Amazing cottage in beautiful surroundings. Took my partner here to celebrate his 50th Birthday. Secret hideaway cottage at the end of the owners garden. Stunning interior with everything two people need to escape together. Made to feel very welcome by the owners but then left alone to enjoy the peace. We would highly recommend and hope to go back again.

Louisa, Whitstable

We were made very welcome by Jackie the owner who walked us through the beautiful garden to find the sweetest cottage nestling on the brow of the meadow. On opening the door, I fell in love with the most enchanting sitting room with painted floors and a woodburning stove all set for our evening by the fire after a rainy journey. Every detail was thoughtfully arranged, afternoon tea and slippers! The bed was a sumptuous 6 footer with the softest Egyptian cotton and feather duvets and pillows. Hot water was plenty and the heating kept us cosy for our winter week away. Absolutely fabulous!

We just back from a very relaxing 3 night break at the cottage. You can relax here so easily, the most we did was keep the log burner going ! We Came home after Christmas floating & calm! Jackie has thought of everything here & presented it very well ! The views are amazing, wether watching rabbits out the window or the horizontal rain comes across the hills ! If you want tranquillity, star gazing, home comforts & fresh air, this place is for you! Thank you Jackie & Paul for making us welcome

Paul, Kent

After travelling for 6 and a half weeks the Cottage in the Garden was the perfect place to relax before heading back to Australia. Jackie and Paul made us feel welcome from the first moment, as did the yummy afternoon tea waiting for us in the cosy, but light and airy, Cottage. The Cottage had everything we needed for our stay and the tasteful, quality fittings - especially the fabulous little wood burner - added to our comfort. The Cottage is well located to explore the area with many beautiful NT gardens and homes in easy driving distance. Perfect for either a short break or a longer stay.

The photos promised an idyllic hideaway and the reality did not disappoint. What can be better than a birdsong accompaniment to breakfast whilst overlooking the Downs? Set in stunning surroundings, the "Cottage in the Garden" really is the perfect place to unwind. Jackie and Paul could not have been more helpful; the perfect hosts. There is plenty in the surrounding area so we eagerly anticipate a return visit!

We stayed last January for 3 nights and had a lovely time. We arrived late but got taken up to the cottage and shown everything, we arrived to a dressed table and dinner ready in the oven ( we pre booked this) Such a lovely place and lovely owners, So much so we are due to go back January 2015 :) Such a romantic getaway, so much so my Fiancé proposed to me on the first night

Fabulous location, so tranquil. Everything you could need for a romantic weekend away, will definitely go back.

WOW - I'm so glad I booked this place to celebrate a "Special Birthday" - The cottage is beautiful, and the view is breathtaking. I decided to opt for the dinner for our 1st night, truly yummy and laid out to perfection. The hosts Jackie and Paul are so warm and friendly, a wonderful smile to make you feel at ease, and that nothing is too much trouble. We will be back and recommending this place to our friends and family.

A great find in a lovely location. My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights my birthday break .We loved it. The cottage is very well equiped and cosy. The furnishings and contents are of a very high standard with a lot of attention to detail and the decoration is beautiful. We stayed in March and the weather was quite cold so the log fire with plenty of wood privided added to the romance of the cottage. The owners very perfect hosts. We had a lovely cream tea awaiting us on arrival which was such a thoughtful touch. The views are fantastic and a great location too.

Evelyn

Don't be disappointed when you discover that you can see the owners' fine house from the cottage; it is in the distance and does not impinge on the solitude or fantastic views. Little touches make all the difference in this well-appointed, thoughtfully decorated little place & the hosts are hands off yet friendly & very helpful. Great place to unwind sans kids.
