Up the avenue of fine white horse chestnut trees to find just what you’d expect from an old vicarage: a Pembroke table in the flagstoned hall, a refectory table sporting copies of The Field, a piano guests can play, silver pheasants, winter log fires in the breakfast and drawing rooms and homemade cake on arrival. The house is magnificent, with huge rooms and passageways. Comfy beds are dressed in old-fashioned counterpanes; the twin has stunning far-reaching views. Weave your way through the branches of the huge copper beech to Jane’s colourful garden; she grows her own vegetables, keeps hens, makes jams and cooks delicious breakfasts.

I took my mother to stay at The Old Vicarage for a little break to recharge her batteries! This was a true gem, Jane was the perfect hostess. Her gorgeous home set in beautiful countryside & lots of lovely antique furniture & ticking clocks just made it so special. Breakfast was served in the dining room with the morning sun streaming in through the huge windows looking out on the sheep in the paddock. A lovely choice of delicious fruit & cereals to start & then a superb cooked breakfast. Tea was served in the sitting room, fresh mint from the garden no less & homemade shortbread. Perfect stay
