The
Experience

Nearly five centuries have passed since this sweet Suffolk village cottage was built. Now, behind its pretty limewash walls, are a pair of special places to stay, as low-ceilinged and wonky as ever but beautifully revived in a simple uncluttered style. ‘White Sheep’ is larger than ‘Black Sheep’, both are whiter-than-white and simply adorned. Bedrooms are charming (an old Suffolk chair, pine chest, vase of flowers) and comfortable; good mattresses come topped with honeycomb cotton covers. Slip into a thick robe in a light, white, beautifully beamed bathroom, rustle up something delicious in a well-organised kitchen just big enough for supper (there’s even a dining room in ‘White Sheep’). Each cottage has a private entrance and a south-facing garden; shared are a wildflower meadow, a bike store and a pond. You’re just off the road on the edge of Peasenhall village: small and delightful, with an art gallery, a good butcher and a deli that supplies the Royal Family. There are super pubs nearby, and walks and bike rides galore. Rent ‘White Sheep’, ‘Black Sheep’, or both. Lovely.

Local points of interest from Sue Gazzard

  • Lounge AroundBoth inside and out, Sheep Cottages are great places to lounge around, reading, playing games, listening to music, or just doing nothing at all. In summer, chill out on the patio, or make like the Cadbury Flake girl in the wild flower meadow
  • Whether at home or out and about, both eating and drinking are a huge pleasure. Peasenhall has a super general store, award winning butcher and a fab "by royal appointment" deli, whilst farm shops, vineyards, breweries, smart & casual eating places abound
  • The countryside all around is gorgeous, offering endless possibilities for driving, walking, cycling, river and sea fishing, boating, birdwatching, golfing, riding.....beautiful churches, awe inspiring castles, market towns, quaint villages, grand houses
  • You could spend a week watching and listening to the wildlife in the garden at Sheep Cottages ... but close by are some of the greatest RSPB reserves in the country... as well as hares, owls, deer, badgers and countless other wildlife waiting to thrill
  • If Life's a Beach ...... then you'll be a very happy bunny. Within 15 minutes drive of your holiday at Sheep Cottages is the Heritage Coast which takes in Southwold, Walberswick, Butley, Dunwich and Aldeburgh - all different, all unspoiled, all beautiful.
  • Each cottage has a good quality hi-fi with iPod dock on which to enjoy music and a library of books and dvds. But around Peasenhall is a hotbed of artistic activity, with galleries galore & festivals of music, art & drama - Snape, Latitude, Glemham, & more
