This Elizabethan farmhouse is by the ancient thatched church in a little hamlet close to Southwold. Minsmere RSPB bird sanctuary, Snape Maltings and the coast are nearby for lovely days out. Sarah, characterful, well-travelled and entertaining, is also an excellent cook, so breakfast will be a treat with bowls of fruit, Suffolk bacon and free-range eggs; occasional candle-lit dinners are worth staying in for, too. Bedrooms have supremely comfy beds well-dressed in pure cotton. Although there is no sitting room, you can enjoy tea and cake and linger in the garden, there are flowers in every room and books galore.

A quiet, comfortable, relaxed and delightful place which completely matches its description on the website. Sarah is an excellent host. We will be back as soon as we are in the area again.

I fully endorse what your previous guest has said - there's little to add on the peaceful location, the comfortable beds, the delicious breakfasts. It was a treat to stay in such a beautifully furnished house. Sarah was very concerned to make our stay as enjoyable as possible in every way: she was helpful - but not intrusive - on matters such as where we might like to eat (important to us!) and was great fun. Altogether a memorable stay.

I had a lovely week at Church Farmhouse. The Farmhouse itself dates back to 1600, is beautiful and so quiet. The room was wonderful with a extremely comfy bed - didn't really want to get up - except for the delicious cooked breakfasts...Sarah, the hostess, was incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions where to go on visits and where to eat out - she knows the area like the back of her hand. Uggeshall is a great base for exploring the area. I will definitely stay again when visiting Suffolk. Thank you Sarah.

Local points of interest from Sarah Lentaigne

  • We are brilliantly placed to really discover this part of Suffolk and the Heritage Coast. Within minutes you can be in Southwold, a charming town with lots of history, privately owned shops, a beautiful church, and enjoy the unspoilt harbour.
  • Walberswick is within 15 minutes by car where you can laze on the beach, walk to Dunwich, enjoy lunch at The Anchor and just wander around !
  • Then there is Aldeburgh, half an hour away - with a fabulous bookshop, good restaurants, nearby Thorpeness, a walk along the beach and lots more ! You could also spend the day at Minsmere the RSPB Reserve. .
  • Snape Maltings - with its wonderful concert hall,a variety of shops - great to visit on a wet day -and a couple of very good pubs
  • You could head north to Norfolk and go to Blickling Hall, discover Norwich, with its covered market and of course a beautiful cathedral. And big houses to visit too !
  • Perhaps a day spent at Helminghall Hall would entice with its beautiful gardens open on certain days. Woottens Plants a perennial's nursery is nearby, and quite a few other wonderful places for plants - the Walled Garden at Snape is also special..
