The
Experience

A lovely inn lost in peaceful hills on the Somerset Levels with two acres of grounds and gardens, this is the perfect spot for a summer pint as glorious views from the beer garden drift downhill for miles. Inside: friendly staff in a light-filled timber-framed bar where one airy room rolls into another; beamed ceilings, tongue-and-groove panelling, logs piled high in alcoves. Great food flies from the kitchen, try pork, prune and apricot terrine, oven baked hake, a hot chocolate fondant; in summer you can eat in the courtyard garden. Bedrooms – of varying sizes – are just the ticket with whitewashed walls, pretty beds, the odd chaise longue, then power showers or double-ended baths. One has a daybed, others have sofas, another has a private courtyard. Ask for the room with the emperor bed for a night of affordable luxury. Taunton is close for cricket in summer, while the Jurassic coast is 40 minutes by car for a day of beach-combing and sea air before returning to your great base at the Farmers.
