Enby’s Yard, Little Barn

Chard, Somerset

For couples, small groups, families: characterful, barn with lovely views, walls covered in art and kindly owners next door. Lyme is close

3 beds

2 bedrooms

Sleeps 5

You’ll feel pleased here in such a warm, comfortable place, with an eclectic mix of art and books – all with stories, everything personal and nothing pretentious. Peter and Patricia, who live next door, will greet you (delightfully) then leave you in peace unless you need them. Walls are white and covered in Patricia’s paintings and other works of art by friends, or their artist son. Cooks can join in the fun – or supervise – from the open plan kitchen (not state of the art but pristine, with three teapots and a smooth tiled floor), the living area is large and light with a wide, scrubbed table, a squishy sofa with cushions from Pakistan, a big wood-burner and a whole wall of glass facing the pretty garden and  that heavenly view over the valley – perfect for children to tumble out into. Bedrooms (up a blue spiral staircase) have floor level windows for even better views, an uncluttered feel and interesting books in the children’s room; the family bathroom has a proper bath for soaking and a shell-surrounded mirror. Walk to the village pub, tramp the coastal path or hunt for fossils at Lyme.

We had a wonderful time at Enby's Yard. Patricia and Peter made us feel very welcome. The house is beautifully decorated with paintings and art. The sofas and beds are all super comfy. The garden is beautiful and the kitchen is well equipped. Our hosts, Patricia and Peter were lovely and helpful whenever we needed them. We had a lovely family holiday at Enby's Yard and would certainly return.
