Sleep well in comfortable rooms full of period features – the beams and doors were probably taken from the castle in the village and there’s a deep well connected to an underground Priest Hole below the dining table to marvel at; Jayne and Andrew carefully renovated the house and will happily tell you all about the fascinating history.
Food is fresh, locally sourced or from the veg patch – breakfast in the summer room or on the patio next to the wildflowers; choose smashed avocado and poached eggs or croissants with seasonal fruits served with homemade jams and granola.
Head out for walks from the doorstep through fields and along the river. There are plenty of cycle paths to explore: pick up route 24 straight through Longleat – you may even see giraffes – or set off for Bath. Frome is only five minutes away with its independent shops, great restaurants and lively markets. Head back to enjoy a sundowner with castle views or cosy up in the snug by the log-burner.
