The Experience

On a quiet street in the heart of Shrewsbury, this fine Georgian house has been in Lucy’s family for generations. The dining room (oak panelling, a huge fireplace) is a lovely space to breakfast on locally sourced produce and homemade bread; vases of garden flowers are dotted all around this cheerful family home. Bedrooms are traditional and comfortable with pretty china tea cups; bathrooms are old-fashioned. The walled garden is fabulous; take tea in an 18th-century summerhouse. Birthplace of Darwin, this is a fascinating historic town; walk to the abbey, castle, theatre, festivals and great shops. Lucy is delightful.

Reviews

Wonderful experience to arrive and go up the steps to the impressive front door. A very pleasant welcome and once inside you immediately feel a world away from everyday life. A very lived in house however and the Acorn room was beautifully balanced, decorated and with luxurious bedding and china. After a breakfast with Lucy's homemade marmalade it was a few steps before being in an area offering extensive independent shopping set amongst Tudor buildings and artisan food. Hardwick House is in a perfect position to access the town, the River, The Dingle and provides a restful, special stay.

Previous comments sum up the pleasures of staying at Hardwick House. A beautiful and very special house - very central but quiet - and Lucy Whitaker who does so much to make your stay enjoyable. We can't wait to return.

Hardwick House is a perfect place to stay in Shrewsbury: not only is it very central (with car parking) - the house is gorgeous and Lucy Whitaker makes her guests feel thoroughly welcome. Elegant bedroom and bathroom; excellent breakfast.

I love this beautiful Georgian house. The guest bedrooms are both lovely and full of character, with supremely comfortable beds. You'll breakfast in an elegant oak-paneled dining room and are spoilt for choice. Outside, a colorful garden features a beautiful 18th century summer house perfect for tea when the weather is fine. You are in the very heart of medieval, historic Shrewsbury, with verdant Quarry Park along the banks of the river Severn only 2 minutes walk away. Warm welcome, lovely hosts.

Such a beautfiul house, full of character and charm. Very comfortable room with everything that one could think of provided and a very personal touch. Tea - and wonderful chocolate cake - were served on my arrival (inc). Breakfast was delicious and all food home-made including the fruit compote and bread ! Perfect position for getting into town centre. Lovely owners running a great B&B.

Alexandra

A beautiful Georgian house within a stone's throw of the town centre - but unbelievably quiet! Lucy and Giles were very hospitable and the full English breakfast, with plenty of choices, was wonderful. The room was outstandingly equipped with everything you could want and the bed was very comfortable. Thank you Lucy and Giles - we hope to see you again!
