The
Experience

Who wouldn’t love a 300-year-old cottage built of Cotswolds’ stone, topped with thatch and steeped in country charm? Albertine roses frame the door, lavender lines the path, and the décor – not the usual play-safe rustic offering – is exquisite, contemporary, and surprising. Imagine Arran-knit cushions on grey cloth sofas, a long low coffee table from an upcycled door, a splash of modern art on an open stone wall, and a stunning glass Buddha head. Warmth and generosity belie simple origins: the kitchen’s immaculate cabinetry, the dining room’s cool mesh chairs, the bedrooms’ chic white linen, the textures, the colours, and a bathroom to die for. There’s Shakespeare in Stratford, organic food at Daylesford, and plenty of country pursuits to keep you amused. This roadside cottage, in a pretty village between Kingham and Chipping Norton, is the perfect size for a family (though not young children because of open-tread stairs) or two stylish couples on a country jaunt – there’s even a spirits’ bar! Don’t forget to book an in-house Balinese massage, and a Sunday roast at the pub down the road.
