The Feathers Hotel

Woodstock, Oxfordshire

Chic hotel in historic Woodstock with excellent food, stylish bedrooms and a courtyard garden - Blenheim Palace is a 5-minute walk

21 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

Woodstock is the estate village to Blenheim Palace, one of Britain’s finest houses, seat of the Dukes of Marlborough, birthplace of Winston Churchill. As for the hotel, it was once a draper’s, then a butcher’s, so it’s no surprise it became a stylish hotel serving excellent food. In the morning you breakfast leisurely, then stroll up to the big house and spend the day dropping your jaw before coming home for afternoon tea in the courtyard. Inside, elegant, uncluttered interiors keep things simple: beautiful art, smouldering fires, a wall or two of original panelling, flowers everywhere. Ancient windows flood rooms with light, you find colourful rugs on wooden floors, then more gin than you can shake a stick at in the sitting-room bar (over 300 different bottles). Bedrooms have a contemporary feel with smart fabrics, lovely beds, mohair throws, delicate wallpapers. Some have sofas, all come with robes in fancy bathrooms. Back downstairs, delicious food waits in the restaurant, perhaps crab ravioli, loin of venison, treacle tart with blackberry sorbet. Bicester Village and Oxford are close.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Dominique Ghislane

  • Our World Gin Bar currently has a selection of over 450 Gins
  • 'The Feathers' is a reference to a previous owners fondness for a stuffed bird on display back then.
  • This smart town house hotel is a short walk from the gates of Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site. The hotel has had a unusually high number of movie star guests as a result of filming at the Palace - most recently the Bond crew for 'Spectre'.
  • Woodstock is a gem of a market town with antique shops, book shops and several great food shops.
  • Location is on the Cotswolds edge, not far from Oxford, Bicester and Oxford Airport
  • Nearby Hanborough British rail is on routes from London and is a great way to get into Oxford in less than 15 minutes.
