The
Experience

Homemade cake or scones, a full basket of logs and freshly laid eggs – what a welcome! Delightful Ruth has thought of everything; the fridge is stocked with ‘survival supplies’ and she lives with her family in the Georgian farmhouse next door if you have any local questions. An immaculate bolthole for four with a private paddock and glorious views of the Vale of Belvoir, this is a tranquil place where you can relax in great comfort. Converted from a former out-building, touches of country style include a Belfast sink in the smart, white kitchen and a striking wood-burner at the other end of the light, open-plan entrance room. Elegant en-suite bedrooms are furnished with antiques and painted in calm colours. The double has pretty, floral wallpaper and a luxurious travertine-tiled walk-in shower, while the second bedroom’s contemporary bathroom has a roll-top bath for indulgent soaking. Stroll to The Unicorn’s Head for good pub grub or Langar Hall for fine dining in a gorgeous country house. Melton Mowbray (of pork pie fame) and Belvoir Castle are close too, or simply explore the wonderful countryside on your doorstep.

Reviews

Lovely cottage, stylishly furnished in a quiet rural setting yet only a short drive from Nottingham. Roo the owner leaves eggs from her hens, a bottle of wine and delicious home made cake along with other goodies. The cottage is spotless. There is a woodburner for cooler evenings, well fitted kitchen, great bathrooms, comfortable beds and although next to the owners house, the cottage is set in a well-tended private garden. We have been twice and highly recommend a stay. Lots to do in the area too! Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Local points of interest from Ruth Brandon

  • A generous welcome basket of goodies awaits you, including fresh eggs from our own hens, delicious home made cakes and essential fridge items. Destination village pub just a minute's walk from our award-winning cottage, (also does takeaway meals).
  • The cottage enjoys an ample private garden with outdoor games, bbq and teak garden furniture on which to enjoy alfresco dining or simply to stargaze. Parking for 3 cars and paddock views. You can even bring your own horse!
  • Langar Near The Hall is a super base for exploring the unspoilt Vale of Belvoir; by foot, or bicycle. Popular with cyclists both on and off-road. Canal towpaths for easier walks. Heaps of local information and maps available in the cottage.
  • An ideal base for a variety of attractions and towns & a 'foodie' haven. Nottingham is less than 30 minutes away. The lovely market town of Oakham is a perfect place to mooch and have lunch. Farther afield but an easy day out is the delightful Peak Distric
  • An easy journey to Sherwood Forest, Belton House, Newstead Abbey, The Workhouse at Southwell, Woolsthorpe Manor (home of Sir Isaac Newton), and the stunning Belvoir Castle to name but a few local attractions. National Watersports Centre just 15 mins away
  • Ruth has carefully chosen some interesting French antique and collectible items to decorate the cottage, sourced from the international antique fairs held in nearby Newark and Lincoln.
