The
Experience

Christine and David’s house on the edge of the village is surrounded by fields and woods, and is only minutes from the beautiful Northumberland coast, a designated AONB. Breakfasts are hearty: Craster kippers from down the road, eggs from Erica, Sylvia and Ella. Scamper about with wide beaches, stunning castles, rugged walks, golf courses and Holy Island, return to a cosy sitting room with a wood-burner. Sleep well in large, airy bedrooms with good bouncy mattresses, chintzy fabrics, top-of-the-range cotton sheets, warm showers and white towels. Wander the peaceful garden – there’s a tree house and a croquet lawn.

Reviews

Absolute bliss! Comfortable, welcoming and tasteful, the Old Rectory is real old world charm and the very best advert for the very best that Britain can offer. At the heart of Northumberland, David and Christine were genuinely wonderful hosts, welcoming us warmly into their home, and making us feel more like family than guests ... not overbearing, simply very courteous and caring. The Old Rectory is a classic example of why we come back to Sawday's each year, because this is style, charm, great value for money, and a most Special Place.

Bruce

A pleasingly human place. An English B&B just exactly as I've always imagined them. Nothing generic, nothing unreal, nothing fancy or hyper fashionable. We enjoyed sharing a breakfast table with us other guests, one of whom even gave an impromptu recital on his Northumberland pipes. We loved the silence and peace of the surrounding countryside. Breakfasts were delicious.

Katie

Low-key luxury with warm and friendly hosts who are only too willing to make your stay just perfect. Every room is overflowing with plush furnishings. Breakfast was all things local and lived up to my expectations, delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot.
