Tucked away in a remote part of the county is the most immaculate farmyard you will ever drive into outside of a ‘Doctor Doolittle’ movie. A Middle White sow in a barn full of straw with piglets playing hide-and-seek, geese, ducks, hens and bantams waddling about… it’s a place as green as Kermit inside and out. There are acres of farmland, beautifully traditional, as well as farm trails, an orchard, birds, butterflies, hares and grey partridge. The Fuffins is a listed Georgian cottage with French windows opening onto a garden with wide views; a large fireplace warms the sitting room, the kitchen is light, roomy and well-equipped, bedrooms are peaceful and comfortable, bathrooms brim with organic towels. Newt Cottage is Victorian with an old-fashioned country garden, the open fire is cosy on chilly days, the bedrooms have a pink and blue theme, and the bathrooms are stocked with Faith in Nature soaps and shampoos. Karen from the farmhouse opposite greets you with a basket of homemade cake and bread. Wild Northumberland awaits: Holy Island, Bamburgh and the Farne Isles are wonderfully close.
