The
Experience

A beautiful Northumberland dower house and two gorgeously renovated cottages just a few fields from the glorious seaside and in the middle of the Fallodon Estate. The house is the perfect place to bring a big family or friends: children will adore the play area in the garden, TVs in every room, pool and table football in the games room; grown-ups will love having two sitting rooms and a snug, two kitchens perfectly equipped (one with a warming Aga), a drinks room with cocktail-making kit, and bedrooms so large you could swing multiple cats. All is in tip-top order with gorgeous antiques, colourful rugs, fresh flowers, books, snazzy bathrooms and great views from lofty sash windows. The cottages are comfy and light with pretty terraces and a nicely private feel. You’re near Alnwick and its famous garden, Bamburgh for castles and dunes, tracks for cycling and riding – even stabling for your horse. Owner Lucia lives nearby and leaves you wine and goodies so take a deep breath and simply flop out. A super retreat.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Mark & Lucia Bridgeman

  • On wet days browse through the hundreds of books and sit in front of a cosy coal fire in Barter Books, the famous second-hand bookshop in the old railway station in Alnwick.
  • On hot days walk along the empty coastline from Craster, past the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, to the Ship Inn at Low Newton.
  • Walk some of St Cuthbert's Way to Holy Island, across the causeway. Visit the birds and seals of the Farne Islands by taking a boat from Seahouses.
  • Great places to eat close by: The Ship at Low Newton, The Pack Horse in Ellingham, Shoreline Cafe in Craster, Earl Grey Tearooms at Howick, Doxford Hall, The Jolly Fisherman in Craster, The Potted Lobster or the Mizun Head in Bamburgh.
  • Surf at Bamburgh Beach under the looming Bamburgh Castle.
  • Wander through large well-known gardens such as Alnwick and Cragside, or the famous arboretum at Howick, or beautiful, more intimate private gardens such as Mindrum.
