The
Experience

Northamptonshire is the county of spires and squires. And here, on the through-road of this fascinating medieval town, is a listed squire’s house – once home to a merchant who traded in the marketplace opposite. Enter the heavy oak door and step back 400 years. William, courteous, hospitable and upgrading with aplomb, is forever tweaking the ambience. Facing the courtyard at the back (furnished for summery breakfasts and aperitifs) are the quietest rooms; all have sumptuous fabrics and wallpapers, dramatic touches and divine beds. Delightfully quirky, spanking new bathrooms with power showers are as special as all the rest.

Reviews

As warm, friendly and unfussy a welcome as you could wish for. Comfortable rooms, beds and furnishings, matched with décor that was tasteful and eclectic in equal measure. A lovely courtyard to relax in outside. In the morning, a delicious cooked breakfast. Located in the historic heart of Higham Ferrers and very reasonably priced. My only regret is that it is most unlikely I will find myself in the area again with another excuse to stay at the Old House.

It’s always a pleasure to stay at The Old House, it’s by far the best B&B I’ve ever stayed in. You feel at home from the minute you arrive. The attention to detail on the decor is outstanding.

The essence of what a Sawday's B and B should be! Lovely old buiding, beautifully decorated, comfortable and quirky and yet immaculately clean. Wonderful beds and bathrooms - we stayed in two on separate nights - and luxurious bedding and towels. Every little comfort considered and above all a friendly welcome and thoughtful and attentive hosts. Highly recommended!
