The
Experience

A couple would be happy playing houses here, cooking in the handmade kitchen with its underfloor heating, eating on their knees by the wood-burner in the sitting room or at the dining room table on blue and white china. Owners Lucy and Nigel live just up the road and leave you logs, a homemade cake and alone, unless you want them. There’s space for children too and the dog if you must – there’s a run and a kennel in the garden.

The garden is a great place to be when it’s sunny, with a picnic table and benches, a big lawn and a Garden Studio at the bottom for peaceful yoga and pilates, or loud excited children. Bring your bikes, there’s a lockable shed and you can cycle off straight from the door along peaceful roads.

The coast is a 15-minute drive for picnics on the widest beaches with the biggest skies, sailing and kayaking, seal trips from Morston and Blakeney, where you can also pick up freshly caught lobster and crab. Stay inland for long hikes and stately home visits – Holkham, Blickling and Sandringham are all a half-hour drive.

Reviews

We had a wonderful stay in Wishing Well. Lucy and Nigel were most welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The cottage was immaculate, comfortable and cosy ... especially with the log burner in the evenings! North Norfolk has a fabulous coastline with lots of lovely walks, and the villages and harbours are delightful - Wishing Well is a great place to return to and relax.

It is a piece of heaven in Norfolk. Everything was perfect and I would return tomorrow.

Location

The neighbourhood

The main draw to Thursford is the Christmas Spectacular, the biggest Christmas show in Europe with music, crafts, comedians, dancing and stalls. The rest of the year it's a lot quieter, but does have a shop for basics, a seafood restaurant, a Steam Engine museum and a playground for children. The nearest decent pub is The Carpenters Arms (5 miles).

Local points of interest from Lucy Jupe

  • Our quiet little village is nestled just off the stunning North Norfolk coast. Within easy reach of Holkham & Wells beach with acres of golden sand, Morston, where you can catch a boat to see the seals and Cley to do a spot of bird watching at the reserve.
  • There are plenty of great places to eat, two excellent farm shops, take away Thai in the village, pizza and of course fresh fish and chips. There are the beautiful Georgian Market towns of Holt & Burnham Market, individual shops, art galleries and antique
  • Thursford is home to the famous Christmas Spectacular in November & December, one of the biggest Christmas shows in Europe and you can walk to it from here! This venue has a collection of steam engines and organs which are worth seeing while you are here.
  • Thursford wood is within walking distance, many oaks are believed to be over 500 years old and in the spring we have a beautiful carpet of Bluebells. In early Spring we have local Snowdrop walks which are stunning too
  • Pensthorpe Natural Park , less than 10 minutes away is great for all the family! There are daily activities and workshops running through out the year covering photography, quilting, painting, drawing etc. A millennium garden designed by famous Piet Oudolf
  • Down the hill we have Little Walsingham famed for its religious shrines in honour of the Virgin Mary and as a major pilgrimage centre. Also contains the ruins of two medieval monastic houses.

Introducing

Lucy Jupe

Lucy and her Norfolk-born-and-bred husband Nigel had their honeymoon here and decided to settle. They renovated this cottage together five years ago – Nigel the structural work and Lucy the interior design. Nigel is also a dab hand at making furniture and you'll see much of his clever work dotted about the cottage, including the entire kitchen. They know the area well and are happy to share handy tips with guests.
