The Fritton Arms

Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

A beautiful inn surrounded by parkland with the biggest lake in Suffolk at the bottom of the garden - food, rooms and staff all do the trick

9 rooms

Rooms sleep 2

This is a small, chic, country-house inn on the Somerleyton estate – well worth the detour to this far-flung realm. And stately it is, 5,000 acres of green and pleasant land, with parkland behind running down to Fritton Lake. Inside, airy interiors mix original features with contemporary design. You’ll find period colours, rugs on stripped floors, 16th-century sand-blasted beams, then beautifully upholstered armchairs in front of a lovely old fireplace. There are sofas in the sitting room, fresh flowers on the piano, a roaring fire in the well-stocked bar. Food is served here and there: at green leather booths in the Fish Room; in the low-ceilinged restaurant with original brick walls; or out on the gravelled terrace in summer. Try wood-fired pizzas, sizzling steaks, perhaps ham hock terrine, sea bass with chorizo, a plate of local cheeses. Attractive bedrooms have warm colours, smart fabrics, comfy beds, white robes for good bathrooms. Some in the eaves are open to the rafters, bigger rooms may have a sofa. Don’t miss Somerleyton Hall, one of the finest in the land. The Broads are close.

Local points of interest from Ewen Thompson

  • A visit to Somerleyton Hall is a must - part of our beautiful estate and only a Stones throw (or walk) from us!
  • We at Fritton are lucky enough to have the largest Natural lake in Suffolk within our grounds at over 2 miles long its perfect for a spot of rowing (boats can be hired) or maybe the keen angler among you can fish for one of the many species within the lake
