The
Experience
Andrew and Bridget’s Victorian schoolhouse stands on the village green. If its exterior gives the impression of English decorum, its interiors do the very opposite; the bust of Aristotle draped in a feather boa is a bit of a giveaway. It’s all refreshingly original – interior design laced with humour. The big room takes centre stage, its high ceiling and stained glass giving an ecclesiastic feel. You’ll find Cambodian lampshades and Vietnamese water puppets, mismatching sofas and a crackling fire, William Morris wallpaper and books by the hundred, then a quirky bar with light descending from on high. Homely bedrooms are warm, simple and nicely priced. One has a four-poster, another a slipper bath, two next door in a cute cottage can be taken together to self-cater. There’s even a bunk house and a wheelchair-friendly bolthole in the garden. Pizzas fly from a wood-fired oven, while pea and ham soup, homemade cottage pie and sticky toffee pudding costs under £20. There’s a conservatory breakfast room, a terrace for summer and a farm shop selling the odd antique. Good walks and the coast wait.

I see why you love this place...so many books, things, econiches. We loved their magnificent tub with high back. And right outside my room was a giant arucaria araucana. Andrew was so warm and generous. He cooked us breakfast the next morning in a sun filled room.

Location
We had a wonderful weekend here with our friends. we began with drinks and lunch then moved in to the charming house near the main property. It was sumptuous yet cosy, having everything we needed. Each couple had private ensuite rooms and we shared the kitchen and sitting room with its roaring log fire. Breakfast was taken in the huge conservatory, it was beautifully cooked and very copious, so much choice. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We bought cards and candle holders in the quirky shop in the schoolyard. We would love to return. Thankyou.
