If you’re searching for a little hideaway in north west London that’s peaceful, secluded and in a leafy garden, come to Belsize Park. The owner lives in a flat in the large, Victorian, terraced house and you have the lodge: cosy, comfortable and bliss for two. Laura, a singing teacher (lessons anyone?), leaves you chocolates, nuts, wine, fruit, flowers and brilliant advice on the city’s hidden treasures; she’s warm and friendly and knows London inside out. Glazed double doors open straight into the main room – the bedroom – off which lie the kitchen and shower. All is light, airy and a little bit Nordic, with a soft, serene palette of white, greys and greens. There are clear glass lamps on side tables, natural rugs on a wood floor, music, books, a small cabinet filled with DVDs, a super fitted wardrobe and a big mahogany sleigh bed. The galley kitchen sparkles, the shower room oozes luxury and outside are lanterns for the private courtyard terrace. Swim on Hampstead Heath, picnic on Primrose Hill (blankets provided!), walk to the Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park. The tube is a three-minute stroll.
