Rooms sleep 2

It’s a handsome house in a conservation area that manages to be both elegant and cosy. The cream-coloured double bedroom has an armchair, a writing desk, pretty curtains and a big comfy walnut bed; the twin is light and airy. The dining room overlooks a secluded terrace and garden and there are newspapers at breakfast. You can eat in – David, who works in the wine trade, always puts a bottle on the table – or out, at one of the trendy new restaurants in Balham. A friendly city base on a quiet, tree-lined street – maximum comfort, delicious food and good value for London. Delightful.

When planning a holiday for our 2 children, my husband and I, we were searching for a place to relax in the evenings after being in busy London during the day. We were really lucky to find 2 lovely rooms at Mary and Davids house and we enjoyed it so much. They were also so welcoming as hosts. It was very easy and fast to take the tube to city center in the morning and come home to the b&b in the evening. We would definitely choose to stay in this lovely and very cosy house again.

Mary and David were wonderful hosts. Their hospitality was exceptional and our room was very comfortable, clean, quiet , bright and airy. We loved the bath and the beautiful garden aspect as we sat and ate our breakfast every morning. The home was in a very pleasant location and within walking distance to train stations and restaurants. We would certainly recommend this accommodation to others and hope to visit again. Most enjoyable 2 night stay at this comfortable and welcoming b&b. David and Mary are excellent hosts and Mary's breakfasts are just great! Will stay again when we next visit relatives in the area.

My mother and I stayed in this cute B&B for 4 days. It was a pleasure getting to know Mary & David. Always friendly, always ready to help with useful tips. The B&B is located in a peaceful neighbourhood. It's also really central between two undergrounds and surrounded by good restaurants. We slept like roses and ate like queens. Choosing full English breakfast was the best decision! Thank you Mary & David for your hospitality.

I spend a month in this lovely B&B and I enjoyed each second... Mary and David help me to live there like a true londoner! Thank you very much...

Terrific value in a wonderfully elegant and cozy home. This B&B is located on a quiet, tree-lined street, with a great park nearby. Hosts David and Mary were lovely and gave us some great sightseeing and dining tips. Only wish we could have stayed longer!

This B&B found in your guide was absolutely delightful. Considering London prices it was terrific value. It was everything that you described. Very much an elegant yet cosy house on a lovely, very London quiet tree-lined street. My hosts Mary and David were so welcoming and so helpful. Their charming friendliness made for a perfect four day break.

Mary and David are a charming, helpful couple living in delightful South London home just moments from a very pleasant Tooting Common. We enjoyed excellent breakfasts to start our days and we thoroughly recommend their hospitality. Lovely...

A staggeringly beautiful home and a comfortable and convenient base for a London city break. David and Mary were incredible hosts, able to cook a great English breakfast and provide insightful recommendations on travel and dining. Will be returning very soon indeed.

This was my 2nd stay this year. Mary and David are wonderful hosts.Their beautiful home is a delight to come back to after a long day of sightseeing.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Mary & David Hodges

  • We're situated between Balham with its range of international restaurants, and the very good pubs of Tooting, namely the Wheatsheaf, King’s Head, The Castle, and the Trafalgar Arms
  • Close to Wandsworth Common, where the Michelin-starred restaurant Chez Bruce is described as Londoner’s “favourite neighbourhood restaurant.”
  • In August 2017, Tooting was listed by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten coolest neighbourhoods - on Earth.
  • Transport links to Central London by bus, underground, or overground train are all close and frequent. We are also handy for the tennis lover going to the Wimbledon Championships, or the gardener heading to the Chelsea Flower Show.
  • Balham overground station is a 10-minute walk and is then a 15-minute journey to Victoria.
