The Experience

The charming Coach House to the Hall is reached via a tree-lined drive past fields of cows and calves; this is an idyllic spot. On the ground floor are two apartments, the Stables and the Saddle Room (with hay racks intact and the original brick floors), a communal space in between, then the Granary above, wonderfully raftered, spanning the entire floor, nabbing the best views, and big enough to seat (and feed) a party of 24. All ideal for renting separately. Original features have been adapted throughout, and neatly incorporated into modern living. In the Granary are two spacious and carpeted bedrooms, each sleeping four; those in the Stables and Saddle Room are smaller, with pine floors and furniture, brick and panelled walls. The place is generous to a fault: a welcome hamper of Lincolnshire goodies; umbrellas, sticks and racquets; books, DVDs, maps, walks and wildlife info; games, puzzles and ping-pong. In the fenced garden: a sandpit, barbecue and climbing frames; beyond, a wood with rope swings and stepping logs. All this, and the tallest parish spire in the country two miles away, in the market town of Louth.

Reviews

My dad and I had a very enjoyable stay. Paul and Flora couldn't have been more welcoming and the Saddle Room was extremely well equipped. Paul took us on a fascinating tour of the farm and deserted medieval village. Do watch the DVDs of the farm in 1959 /60 and the aerial photography of the village if you have chance. The Coach House is ideally place for trips to Lincoln and the coast. Louth on a market day shouldn't be missed either.

Local points of interest from Paul & Flora Bennett

  • We won the Self Caterer of the Year category of the Select Lincolnshire Food and Hospitality Awards 2016 and the Business of the year at the same awards in 2017.
  • The Bennett family have farmed at Brackenborough for over 100 years, and now produce wheat, oil seed rape, barley, beans and beef, as well as welcoming guests to the Coach House. Guests are free to enjoy exploring all of the grounds, garden and farm.
  • As members of Select Lincolnshire, we encourage guests to enjoy Lincolnshire produce. Guests receive a complementary Lincolnshire plum bread, and free seasonal vegetables from the garden at Brackenborough Hall.
  • Local produce is on sale, including Scaman’s eggs, St Boltoph’s apple juice, honey from Lakings, Piper’s Crisps and Ownsworth’s rape seed oil.
  • Guests are encouraged to visit local restaurants and cafes, and to buy sausages, stuffed chine, cheeses, beers, fruit & vegetables at Louth’s market and excellent independent shops.
  • The beautiful beaches and nature reserves of Lincolnshire's coastline are nearby as well as the rolling hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds for getting some fresh air
